Del Monte Forest and this page were about the same town. I have merged them. The text of both pages suggests that Pebble beach is the most common name, and so I have merged them here. Zeimusu | Talk page 13:39, 25 October 2005 (UTC)
- And I have just removed the redirect and started a separate article about the coastal woodlands called Del Monte Forest. Thomas Blomberg 12:51, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
- Del Monte Forest CDP, although it includes the separate community of Pebble Beach, it's population likely included the surrounding areas beyond Pebble Beach, so as a result, I moved the U.S. Census's related numbers back to Del Monte Forest, California (an article about the census-defined area), keeping the two articles consistent and as accurate as possible. "one of the highest profile spots in the US"?
[edit]Literally or figuratively? If literally--referring to relief profile--there's surely a clearer way to say it. If it's figurative--well, seems hard to verify to me. Either way, a citation would be good. Chick Bowen 02:55, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
Lone Cypress Image
[edit]- I'm wondering about the lead image, which is quite stunning as a photo, but doesn't really conform to lead guidelines. Without the caption, one would not even know its Pebble Beach, and it's certainly not a "skyline" view, as is recommended. It's not an iconic image of Pebble Beach, either, which would also work if a skyline is not available or suitable.Smatprt (talk) 01:40, 7 September 2009 (UTC)
- Upon looking at the article, it would seem that the Lone Cypress shot, being the symbol of the city, would be a good candidate for the lead image. Thoughts?Smatprt (talk) 17:10, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
- Having heard no response, I went ahead and placed the Lone Cypress image in the lead. Even though the Bird Rock image (it's actually not "of" Bird Rock, but it's fairly close in proximity) could really be just about anywhere along the west coast of the United States, because the image was of such high quality, I did not delete it from the article. Instead, I put in in the first section below the lead.Smatprt (talk) 21:48, 10 September 2009 (UTC)
Pebble Beach corrections
[edit]A few items regarding Pebble Beach need correction.
1. "Pebble Beach" is a trademark name of Pebble Beach Company: it is not a proper place name. The place name is Del Monte Forest, an unincorporated part of Monterey County. Outside of Pebble Beach Company, the only authorized use of the name Pebble Beach lies with Pebble Beach Community Services District, a California local Special District, and the local US Post Office branch (93953).
2. The Lone Cypress is not a city symbol - there is no city - but rather a trademark symbol of Pebble Beach Company, requiring copyright license to reproduce. Images of the tree may not be used for commercial purposes. The current company logo includes a stylized image of the Lone Cypress.
3. The Del Monte Forest Foundation is comprised of up to 12 members, all residents of Del Monte Forest and there are no longer any Pebble Beach Company representatives on the Board of Directors.
4. The land developer working for the Del Monte Properties Co was Samuel F. B. Morse, a distant cousin of the Morse code developer.
5. The Community Services District receives only a portion of property tax revenue from DMF properties.
6. The tree behind the green at hole #6 is no longer there. According to the caddies there, it died rather suddenly, no one seems to know exactly how it happened or who if anyone was responsible for it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Slowslide1969 (talk • contribs) 21:22, 2 December 2013 (UTC)

- Good luck with that! Pebble Beach is a long-standing name for a point along 17-mile drive. In the 1850s, Chinese fishermen set up camps at various points along the edge of Carmel Bay including Stillwater Cove, called Chinese Cove or Pescadero at the time. Pescadero was next Pebble Beach, where the beachcomber could find polished pebbles of agate. The Chinese settlement continued up to 1897 at least. In 1908, architect Lewis P. Hobart designed a rambling one-story pinewood log building, called the Pebble Beach Lodge. It faced south, parallel with Pebble Beach, with a view extending down along Carmel Beach. Motorists stopped there for the next ten years for food and drink available round the clock, operated as an extension of Hotel Del Monte. In 1918 the lodge burned down, and the owners started to rebuild in 1919: the beginnings of the modern-day Lodge at Pebble Beach. Binksternet (talk) 15:24, 10 July 2011 (UTC)

Section Notable people doesn't indicate connection
[edit]I see a section 'Notable people' which doesn't explain the connection of these people to this article. Could be resident or grew up or was born in this place. For example I see 'George Lopez - Comedian' and I assume he owns or has owned a home in Pebble Beach. But going to his page on Wikipedia there is no mention of this connection. LucienK (talk) 16:04, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
I did notice there are 2 links for 2 people indicating they are/were residents. If the intent is residents only then maybe this section should be renamed as such LucienK (talk) 16:12, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
