History
[edit]The history of how this island was acquired by the USA deserves more than a single line: "It was acquired by the United States through a treaty in 1877". Can someone familiar with the history expand this to give an in-depth history of how the island was taken over by the US?
Pago Pago
[edit]Pago Pago is not a city. I have lived here for 7 years now and I have never heard of anyone calling the village as Pago Pago City! It is a village; not a city! --Weekeejames 01:30, 4 February 2007 (UTC) Hello.
- I have removed this:
- "It is a village area that is often mistaken to be a city (as in a capital or port city) of this south Pacific territory of the United States of America."
- It's not clear whether the terms "village" and "city" have any legal definition in American Samoa. The ensuing text distinguishes the village from the urban agglomeration, so the deleted statement is superfluous at best. jnestorius(talk) 13:55, 10 October 2009 (UTC)

There is a small atoll in French Polynesia by the same name. There needs to be a disambiguation. When I was there, many years (well OK, decades) before 2010, it was simply called 'pango' and that could refer to the town, or the whole island.203.213.63.24 (talk) 02:54, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
IMAGE OF STATUE
[edit]I do not see any necessity of the image of statue to be placed in this article. SAY NO TO RACISM 22:01, 7 May 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by KATURQUOTE (talk • contribs)
