Zapotec God
[edit]I removed the following from the article, as it sounds very wrong, and I could find nothing on Google to support it. Can anyone verify the following?
- Oscar is the Zapotec God of Fire and Wind. C. 800 - 1200.

- It is quite identical with this site http://www.wordiq.com/definition/Oscar
- Yes, because that page "uses material from the Wikipedia article 'Oscar'", and clearly states so at the bottom. It's just a mirror. -- Jao 18:34, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
I reversed this edit by 70.244.39.145 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) which was vandalism and foul language. I also added a topic name "Zapotec God".--Kiyoweap (talk) 03:15, 4 March 2018 (UTC)
Origin of name?
[edit]For at least the proper names section, could someone who knows something about it make a brief paragraph as an article/disambig lead stating whence the name came into English? I'm thinking something similar to the lead of Lincoln. Tomertalk 00:13, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
it#s a bag ?
[edit]or a prize for film products, and the germans act in this year out of the human right standarts. it#s a "ghostwriters" strike. --Raskollnika (talk) 18:52, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Was looking for info on this dish. According to this post on food.com, dishes with the term Oscar "always includes crab meat, asparagus and bearnaise sauce."--Morning star (talk) 20:33, 2 March 2011 (UTC)
Oscar who died in Cath Gabhra cannot be Oscar of fairyland
[edit]I removed the description that Oscar (mythology) is the son of Oisín and Niamh (mythology).
It is only according to the 18th century poem "Lay of Oisín in the Land of Youth" attributed to Mícheál Coimín that Oisín couple had two sons, one who was named Oscar.
That Oscar (brother of Plor na mBan), who presumably still lives in fairyland, cannot be logically reconciled with the Oscar (mythology) who died in the Cath Gabhra in the tradition of the Fenian cycle. --Kiyoweap (talk)
- I'm moving the thead to Talk:Oscar (Irish mythology)#Oscar of Tir na nOg so please place your inputs there. --Kiyoweap (talk) 04:58, 4 March 2018 (UTC)

Oscar → Oscar (disambiguation) – Judging by the number of pageviews, it seems that "Oscar" (without apostrophe s) is a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT of Academy Awards, because the Academy Awards had the total pageviews of 1.4 million pageviews in the last 90 days, more than any term that named as "Oscar". 120.188.5.191 (talk) 23:38, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose based on the argument so far. How many views the Academy Awards page has is not an indication of how many people used "Oscar" to search for it (at most 0.3% of viewers of the Academy Awards page). There do seem to be extra views around the months when the Academy Awards take place (see here), but the activity is minor during the rest of the year. Based on WikiNav we know that about 55% of hits on the dab in January, which should be one of the heavier months for the Academy Awards, were followed up by visits to the Academy Awards page. We do have exact title matches with significant page views, such as Oscar (given name), Oscar (fish), Oscar (1991 film), and Oscar (footballer, born 1991). Dekimasuよ! 01:18, 21 February 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose. Just a dab page doing its job. Moscow Mule (talk) 08:44, 21 February 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose. The Academy Awards is by no means the primary topic. JIP | Talk 10:29, 21 February 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose The Academy Award is not the primary topic. the Oscar or an Oscar would be an appropriate redirect to Academy Awards. Oscar would be a dab page. cookie monster 755 13:14, 21 February 2025 (UTC)
- Clickstreams are pretty convincing, but because this is the season, we have to go to the archive to look at earlier months, for example like this:

- The spread of reader interests is very obvious. I don't see the long-term significance argument, either, as the given name is both older and widespread and the overall interest eclipses the proposed topic mass views here mass views there - when even individuals have comparable traffic to the proposed topic, it's very hard to claim any single primary topic by usage. - Neutral "Oscar" may be primary redirect to Academy Awards but not sure if it maintains long-term significance, as "Oscar" as "Academy Awards" only overhelming dominated during awarding season (November-March). 2404:8000:1037:469:89:36B7:FCE7:9C48 (talk) 00:29, 22 February 2025 (UTC)
