[edit]With its lush Quadrangle Newman College is also one of the few places in suburban Melbourne that the native animal, Rattus norvegicus foras induviae can be found.
It is believed that the triac was discovered by a student while residing at Newman College
The Brown Rat originated in China and is a pest. If you meant a different animal, please find the right link.
The TRIAC is an electronic component, "TRIode for Alternating Current". If you meant something else, please find the right link.

I didn't add that information myself, but I am aware of what the previous contributor was on about. Have ammended as needed.

- Ugh. Why does an encyclopedic article on a historically interesting building need a trivia section anyway? Is it some Newman injoke, about the rats and the TRIAC? Whatever. I'll continue to remove the TRIAC comment until a source is cited. See WP:CITE and WP:V. pfctdayelise 02:45, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
OK, but the building is not the only focus of the article, the institution and the people who inhabit the walls have their place. The eccentricities of the place. This is not to suggest that I list the most popular and least popular residents. I don't have a verifiable source for the TRIAC. No in-jokes about the rats, you may have been inside Newman for the photos, but the rats only come out at night. --Schgooda 00:11, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
- They have their place, Schgooda, but let's have a sense of proportion, you know? Like, it might be nice to have a few things like a list of deans, major financial supporters, famous alumni... before we worry that the rats get their place. Anyway, I look forward to seeing what improvements you can make to it! pfctdayelise 05:52, 10 January 2006 (UTC)
Mark Viduka married at Newman? As far as I'm concerned it's hearsay until proven otherwise. Not sure if I want a player like Viduka associated with Newman in an encyclopedic sense anyway.--Schgooda 02:01, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
- ADDED: Mark Viduka WAS married at The Chapel of the Holy Spirit, Newman College. I attended the ceremony. Your comment about not wanting a player like Viduka lessens the person YOU are, not him. From a junior player at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) to European giants like Dinamo Zagreb, Celtic, Leeds, Middlesbrough and Newcastle, his footballing success never went to his head. Maybe he would make a perfect role model for you to learn the meaning of humility. MK. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 203.39.203.226 (talk) 02:07, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
"There are ample occasions during the academic year when either black tie or lounge suit for men and ballgown or evening gown for women are worn, including the Students' Club Dinner, Valete and Commencement dinners." - The dress code for women here is inaccurate. As an institution which supports women's advancement and equality Newman College would never create behavioral expectations which differentiate between the sexes. Women are required to dress with an appropriate level of formality for the occasion, however, there is no obligation to include a dress or skirt, pants may also be worn. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.244.182.210 (talk) 13:21, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
Rumours about the current administration
[edit]To the person who keeps adding the stuff about the current administration: I'm going to assume for the sake of argument that the stuff you're trying to add is sincere. You will need to rephrase it in a way that reflects a NPOV and is verifiable. Otherwise, it's just slander. -- De Guerre (talk) 05:10, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
