Undiscussed attempted move

[edit]

The move to Nairobi Riverside Drive Attack has already been reverted. It wasn't discussed and I am not sure that the rationale of "title used is too general" is actually valid. How many other attacks have taken place? The title is based on an often used naming convention e.g. 2008 Mumbai attacks. It strikes me that the article Westgate shopping mall attack is named oddly. - Master Of Ninja (talk) 22:22, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

In fact would 2019 Nairobi attack be a better title? There were other parts of the complex targeted as well. - Master Of Ninja (talk) 22:27, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ill disagree as the incident took place at a very specific place. Case on point is Westgate shopping mall attack which was a place in westlands nairobi... That article was too specific on the place of the incident which was westgate. Then again this incident didnt take place only in the hotel as the area under attack included other non hotel related complexes including office blocks, clinics, among othes. this incident took place in riverside drive ... Come to think about it 2009 Nairobi Dusit Hotel Complex Attack can be a more appropriate title Shadychiri (talk) 22:31, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
May I now move the page?Shadychiri (talk) 22:43, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Moving the page to 2019 Nairobi dusitd2 complex attack

[edit]

Regards to the page creators et. al. unfortunately the title is too general and in some as the attack did not occur in every place in nairobi but a very specific place which is riverside drive. hence my suggestion is we move the page to Nairobi Riverside Drive Attack. Regards Shadychiri (talk) 22:27, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Both your suggestions of title are too long, aren't the attack's common name & aren't well-known locations outside Kenya. 2019 Nairobi attack is a clear simple title. Jim Michael (talk) 22:55, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Another terror incident has occured in nairobi which warrants the movement of the page to the above mentioned title. See 2019 Nairobi Latema road blast Shadychiri (talk) 19:10, 27 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Bad page name

[edit]

Why is it now called "2019 Nairobi attack"? An attack could mean anything and it has been established that this was an attack on a hotel. Either the name should be changed to "2019 Nairobi hotel attack" or it could incorporate the hotel name instead, like "DusitD2 hotel attack". Alternatively perhaps the word "siege" would serve better than "attack". But for sure the current title is bad. --Shioranti (talk) 15:26, 17 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Because the complex which was attacked is not only a hotel, and we usually use attack in the title when there are multiple types of weapons used. Also, this is the only notable attack to have taken place in Nairobi this year, so there's no need for the title to be any longer that it is. The name of the building isn't well-known outside Kenya, so it makes to sense to include its name in the title. Jim Michael (talk) 18:34, 17 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I think the former name was more appropriate as it converted a more direct relation with the vicinity of the crime. Remember the Wikipedia naming convention of When Where and what. Shadychiri (talk) 19:42, 17 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
When is 2019, where is Nairobi & what is attack. It's a multi-purpose building, so specifying hotel is inaccurate as well as unnecessary. As it's not called the Nairobi Hotel, the h shouldn't be capitalised. Jim Michael (talk) 20:09, 17 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If that is the case then, why should you not rename it to 2009 Nairobi 14 Riverside attack???? Shadychiri (talk) 16:19, 19 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You mean 2019. The reason not to state the address is that the vast majority of people don't know it, whereas the vast majority of people know of Nairobi. Jim Michael (talk) 00:26, 21 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry that was a typo. I still feel its too general. Maybe because I'm Kenyan Shadychiri (talk) 16:15, 22 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Noel Kidaliza

[edit]

I know this isn't the right place to put this forward but I'm saddened that the last victim to have succumbed to injuries, The Late Noel Kidaliza was a close workmate of my parent and a family friend. May her soul rest in eternal peace! -XR98 (talk) 16:01, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
