Article MHK

[edit]

Started today.

Further to the above. Sometime ago, a few regular editors of the page/article on Sir Sikandar Hayat Khan and some related stubs, felt that these were of rather poor quality and much in need of improvement and that we also had to make or create inter-related links and some other articles etc. Starting with this premise, and working mostly on the first/primary article, we also developed/edited/amended or created articles like Shaukat Hayat Khan, Mazhar Ali Khan (journalist), Bilquis Sheikh, Begum Mahmooda Salim Khan, and now this stub and the one on Liaqat Hayat Khan. We did not do much with the one on the Khattar tribe as it was rather controversial, sadly. The main problem with some of these and other articles relating to WP Pakistan seems to be that sooner or later, FAMILY MEMBERS of various personalities and belonging to various tribes and c, decide to intervene and add material which is un-encyclopedic or puffing up themselves and their ancectors/relatives, or even just compiling 'directories' and names lists to obtain cheap and quick online fame. Any serious, concerted eforts to make good quality articles are thus disrupted and controversies ensue, and many serious contributors are driven away. Only recently, on the Sir Sikandar article, this has happened and a competent editor/contributor, with a real feel and enthusiasm for history, driven away, maybe for good. While it has thus become that more difficult for me to carry out the relevant work (as explained already) I am adding some stubs and articles slowly, and also have added some others, linking to this overall 'picture'. I am leaving this note for any future editors to consult in the event that I am not able to carry on the work for some reason. Hope tis helpful. Removed wrong entry

[edit]

Helo, I have today removed a wrong entry, someone had added that Malik Khizar Hayat Tiwana was a son of Nawab Muhammad Hayat Khan (Khattar of Wah); whereas Khizar was the son of Malik Umar Hayat Khan Tiwana, from Shahpur/Sargodha area. There is no family connection. Please, dont add things unless youre factually sure about them. Thanks. 39.54.64.97 (talk) 18:01, 23 May 2014 (UTC)Prof Asad Khwaja[reply]

Removed "jatt" from Khattar

[edit]

Khattars are not jatts. The entry wasn't cited so I removed it. I can understand the desperation of some people to feel important and feel connection with powerful tribes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.172.32.94 (talk) 03:19, 3 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Again removed the link to the page "jatt" before "Khattar". Khattars are Attock are definitely not Jatts. See page 560-569 of The Panjab Chiefs by Sir Lepel H. Griffin for a background on the Khattar tribe of Attock, and Muhammad Hayat Khan's own family: (link: https://archive.org/stream/panjabchiefshis00grifgoog#page/n632/mode/2up).

Another reference to the Khattar tribe of Attock is found on page 171 in Denzil Ibettson's Panjab Castes (link: https://archive.org/stream/panjabcastes00ibbe#page/170/mode/2up).

Hope these references will put an end to uncited edits.

Allen's Soldier Sahibs

[edit]

How to confirm if Allen has mentioned a conflicting statement to what has been written here in this article about Nicholson's rescue by Karam Khan. How to confirm if it was the same guy as intended to be mentioned here. Regards Azmarai76 (talk) 15:32, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Real Author of Hayat Afghani - Sher Muhammad Khan Gandapur Muhammad by Jamil Hanifi

[edit]

Real Author of Hayat Afghani - Sher Muhammad Khan Gandapur Muhammad Jamil Hanifi Encyclopaedia Iranica Publishing Date: Friday, September 16 2005

GANDAPUR, Sher Muhammad Khan. b. Mehrdad Khn. b. Azad Khan, author of the Persian Tawarikh e Khorshid e Jahan, an important chronicle containing genealogical accounts and tables of Pashtun/Paxtun tribal groups. He belonged to the Ebrahimzay section of the Gandapur Pashtun tribal segment. His dates of birth and death are not known. He was the mayor of the city of Kulachi in the Dera Ismail Khan district of Northwest Frontier Province for an unspecified period during the third quarter of the 19th century. The book (pp. 304-5) includes explicit reference to events in 1904 and 1905, which makes the actual date of publication 1905 or later and thus raises doubts about the authorship of some portions of the work. It was posthumously published by Sardar Mohammad Hayat Khan, probably the same Mohammad Hayat Khan that the author refers to as his own son (p. 306).

Sher Muhammad claims (p. 2) that when he was mayor of Kulachi, he composed a brief history and genealogy of the Afghans called "Gulshan-e-Afghan" but as he was preparing it for publication, due to the machinations of some government officials, it found its way to Muhammad Hayat Khan (not to be confused with the author's son), an assistant in the Bannu judiciary, who not only appropriated the document but also used it as the basis for his own book Hayat-e-Afghani. It is difficult to judge Gandapur's claim. Portions of Hayat-e-Afghani, however, show clear resemblance to Gandapur's book. Nevertheless, Muhammad Hayat Khan, without specifically naming anyone, refutes a number of Sher Muhammad's assertions, especially those concerning genealogical chronologies and the Gandapur's Pashtun identity and their stipulated descent from Muhammad Gisu Daraz (pp. 279-98).

The Tawarikh e Khorshid e Jahan was reprinted in Peshawar under the title of Tarikh e Khorshid e Jahan. The reprint is not dated but it is likely that it was published after the 1978 revolution in Afghanistan when a lucrative market appeared for reprints and translations of works dealing with Afghanistan and its people. The original publication date and the name of Sardar Muhammad Hayat Khan, who had commissioned the original publication, were omitted from the title page of the reprint. This book along with Muhammad Hayat Khan's Hayat-e-Afghani and Niamatullah's Heravi's Makhzan-e-Afghani are three basic and sometimes contradictory Persian sources for the dynastic history and genealogical accounts of the Pashtuns.

I can't say anything on this but there's always been controversy regarding Hayat I Afghan. Regards Azmarai76 (talk) 20:28, 11 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
