Why

[edit]

Why is this article in the Gaelic Games project? (Not another attempt by the GAA folk to hijack a village?!) (Sarah777 20:00, 12 July 2007 (UTC))[reply]

No account

[edit]

I don't have an account so can't sign this but I fixed the typos in the sentence "Moate has two primary schools, the Convent National School and the Boys Primary School, where students are receive an excellent standard of eductaion". Kind of ironic. :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.70.55.3 (talk) 15:42, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Duni?

[edit]

This is probably an "ignorant American" question but in the sentence "The cause is believed to be Duni crossing the road However, the M6 motorway now bypasses the town" what is/are Duni? Google was no help. Thanks. Wolfhound668 (talk) 12:52, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think that "duni" is a slang word (nickname)for someone with the surname "Dunican". I have found a bebo page for Paul Dunican (PaulD4083) where one of his friends refer to him as "Duni". Interestingly he is from Moate! Farder (talk) 18:41, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Could be. I thought it might be slang for "tourists". It looked like someone inserted it as a joke (especially since there was a grammar error) but I was hesitant to remove it. Hopefully the traffic situation in town has eased up now. The last time I was in Moate the N6 bypass was just getting to that point (I could see the construction from the cemetary we visited where I have relatives buried).Wolfhound668 (talk) 17:42, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

People should not be advertising themselves.

[edit]

please stop advertising yourselves on this page. take out a page in the athlone advertiser. you are not that vital a part of the town. i will continue to reedit and update or delete any vanity advertised on this page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cursai (talkcontribs) 22:34, 28 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Anon; if you are referring to Nuala Holloway then you must get her Wiki article deleted. Otherwise she is "notable" per Wiki standards and deleting the piece about her is edit warring. Sarah777 (talk) 10:27, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

She may be notable, but she certainly should not be advertising herself in the Culture/Heritage section —Preceding unsigned comment added by Liamario (talkcontribs) 15:17, 20 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Liamario, it would be advised to retract your misinformed and unfounded libelous statement. Ms. Holloway has no involvement in editing wikipedia and besides she does not count Moate as her home town so would have no reason to add herself here if it was the case. Ms. Holloway has been cited on other sources as being from Moate and for making Moate famous during the 1970s but it is not a location she associates herself with. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.43.173.40 (talk) 10:17, 20 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Notable People

[edit]

There have attempts to enter unknown people into the notable people section. As this goes against Wiki 'Biography' terms of use . i have deleted same people. Also this is to show respect for the actual people of note and of interest in this section. For arguments sake, adding details personally of oneself, claiming that oneself is notable does not warrant someone to be notable. If a person was to insert their own details in attempt to advertise themselves would this be allowed and would it be acceptable to Wiki administrators.... Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cursai (talkcontribs) 16:32, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Famous people

[edit]

I'd like to start a discussion on two people added to the Famous People section by an IP user. Michael O'Connor and Daragh Ownes were added. The Michael O'Connor link is a disambig page and it's not obvious (to me anyway) which Michael O'Connor is supposed to be linked to. Daragh Ownes is a redlink and google isn't giving me much to work with. Since there is a history of disagreement about who belongs in this particular section of the page I'm hesitant to remove these entries without giving someone a chance to fix them first. Wolfhound668 (talk) 16:34, 14 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed a good-faith edit by an anon. I'm not sure if Paula Fox is currently living in Moate but I read through four articles on four different websites and all describe her as an American author born in New York and currently married to a New Yorker and none mention Ireland at all, much less Moate. If she does live in Moate can we get a reference before putting back? Thanks. Wolfhound668 (talk) 13:30, 1 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
