1997 'deselection'
[edit]Can we clarify what happened in 1997? This article previously said she was deselected in favour of Jim Fitzpatrick, which can't quite be right as the constituency was abolished. The Telegraph says "She considered running a third time in 1997, but made way for Jim Fitzpatrick, a Blairite Glaswegian official of the Fire Brigades Union"; while Butler and Kavanagh say "Mildred Gordon [...] failed to gain selection for the new Poplar and Canning Town seat", which suggests that she did run. Can anyone clarify? TSP (talk) 12:48, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
