10m/30ft or 100ft/30m !?
[edit]I thought the former figure was the typical one quoted for Bluetooth and the latter for WiFi (indoors). If so then this intro sentence in the article needs to be fixed or this part removed. 120.155.51.223 (talk) 08:42, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
MiFi vs. compact wireless router
[edit]This article is supposed to be about the MiFi(tm) but a lot of the language uses the term MiFi as being equivalent to a "compact wireless router". I have changed the intro paragraph to clarify the distinction between MiFi and "compact wireless router" but this article should eventually be rewritten and split into separate "MiFi" and "compact wireless router" articles. Agree. I was searching for the MiFi offered on the Palm Pixi Plus and came to this page, and can't decide if the article is referencing this specific brand of device, or MiFi.Paganize (talk) 15:00, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
Carriers offering MiFi: reorganize
[edit]Seems that it would make most sense to reorganize the section "Carriers offering MiFi" as a two column table listing Country and Carriers in each column (as with other similar articles).
Hutchison 3G and "3" are the same carriers. Should not be listed seperately. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.48.190.100 (talk) 07:28, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Too much Novatel?
[edit]This page reads as though it had been prepared by the Novatel marketing department. Outside the US Novatel is less well known and Huawei is the predominant manufacturer in many countries. Some further balance would be appropriate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.2.122.231 (talk) 09:15, 12 October 2012 (UTC)
- Huawei may manufacture compact wireless routers, and those routers may sell better than Novatel's, but it doesn't change the fact that "MiFi" is a trademarked term. You'll notice that the article on the Whopper is all about Burger King, regardless of the fact that other chains (e.g. McDonalds) may actually sell more burgers. -- Rnickel (talk) 21:03, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
"Written like an advertisement"
[edit]I just now removed the template, added by User:Egberts about a week ago, that this page is "written like an advertisement". I just don't see it. I have worked on this page for a long time, having become interested in the product after I got my first MiFi device back in 2010. I don't see any "puffery"-type terms talking about (for example) how awesome Novatel MiFi devices are compared to other brands of compact wireless router. There is frank coverage of the security problems, recalls, and radio interference associated with the product. There is an extensive listing of other company's own offerings into the category. Where is the "advertising"?
My own personal theory is that the "advertisement" angle comes from the (incorrect) use of "MiFi" as a generic name applying to any device-- manufactured and marketed by anyone in the entire category-- combined with the failure to recognize that the term "MiFi" is a registered trademark to a particular company. People coming to this page with no notion of this will naturally be surprised to see a strong focus on Novatel MiFi devices when they expect to see a more generic discussion of the entire product category, but I don't know what the solution to their ignorance is. The lede of the article already introduces the trademark issue head-on in an attempt to deal with exactly this problem. What additional changes would people like to see so that we can dispense with the specious "advertising" claims?

Egberts (talk) 21:51, 29 April 2016 (UTC) Thank you for the detailed explanation, talk. Yeah, trademark is the key here. Removal should be OK, after all this is my first attempt to use "Written like an advertisement" so I am not well-versed at this point (back then). Again, thank you.
