"Enemy of the state" in Turkey
[edit]- Kaplan, who was prosecuted as an enemy of the state in Turkey
Can someone clarify the definition of the term "enemy of the state" within the legal system of Turkey? The "enemy of the state" is a disambiguation page. A Turkey-specific page would be useful. mikka (t) 00:27, 3 September 2005 (UTC)
Extradition case
[edit]This extradition case is unusual because governments usually refuse to extradite people to face trial for political crimes such as treason and espionage
- I am going to remove this sentence, because it is nonsense. First of all, it was not an extradition, but Kaplan, being a Turkisch citizen and thus a third state (=not EU) national, lost his residence rights in Germany and was therefore deported. This is a case of the application of foreigners' laws, not of extradition for criminal prosecution. Secondly, trying to kill members of a government does not form a mere political crime, but also constitutes attempted murder, and extradition for such a crime is not unsual.
