Jim Ward
[edit]Just put a link to Jim Ward (voice actor) for Ramon Solano. It doesn't mention anything on that page about Mercenaries 2, but it could be out of date. Could someone who is certain that it is wrong remove the link or repoint it, and if you're sure I'm right, then could you edit Jim Ward (voice actor) so it has a Mercenaries line in it somewhere. I got Jim Ward from the Mercs2 credits, which can be watched at http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=loByjX8t55Y and it shows 'Jim Ward' at 1.08. E.G Interactive (talk) 23:32, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Small Edit
[edit]Just edited the final part of the section of the "plot" i changed it to that not only can Solano can be killed he can also be verified alive if the player character takes good choices throughout the game. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.100.161.168 (talk) 14:34, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

When's the game coming out
[edit]Whats the real date for Mercenaries 2 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Icetonez186 (talk • contribs) 16:36, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
- The release date is of yet unannounced for any system or region. Any release dates you are given at this point are unofficial guesses. Яussiaп F 02:40, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- GameStop lists Mercanaries 2 as coming out on 04/08/08. Why it makes a lot of sense for GameStop to be keenly aware of projected game release dates (Even if few others are):

No release date
[edit]It says the release date is in October when really the release date has never been announced. It should be Quarter 4 2007.
- I'd also like to add for future referance: no release date is official until confirmed by Pandemic Studios. Even dates found on sites such as gamespot are only rough estmates. Яussiaп F 02:19, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
gamestop does not have a clue when the game will release. They just pull a date out of their *** to make it seem like they do. Gamestop has NEVER, in the history of their store, listed a dead on guess at a release date without someone else coming up with it before hand. As it stands, the game is slated for release in Fisical Year 2009, which starts in April 2008. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.76.1.76 (talk) 16:52, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

PS2 Development
[edit]Development of the PS2 version of Mercenaries 2 is being done entirely in-house by Houston-based game developer Pi Studios. This is confirmed on their homepage. I would add this to the main wiki entry myself, but since I run the company that would be bad form. :) Jfaulken 19:55, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Rumor
[edit]I don't know if this should be added, but in the latest video blog there is a date on the white board "4.16.07" and then I think it is engrave in "soul." Many people think this is important and the community manager has said it might be something important like a wedding or something. There is reason to believe that something pretty big might happen that day but there is not conformation.
- Nothing happened. It was all just rumour and hype going around the Pandemic forums. Яussiaп F 18:29, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Returning mercenaries
[edit]All comments below are old (except for The Frederick), it has been confirmed that all of the original mercenaries will be returning. Also it will be possible to recruit other mercineries, which will give you certain bonuses. These include a pilot and a mechanic. clitton01 14:59, 15 November 2007 Clitton01 (talk) 09:27, 22 November 2007 (UTC) The only merc from the old game confirmed to return is Mattias Nilsson (and with him the voice of Peter Stormare (yay!)). See FAQ.
I'm pretty sure that Chris Jacobs will return also. Russian F 15:45, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

Xbox 360, PS3
[edit]The link provided is hardly official, and it doesn't mention anything about "however after looking at the strong level of videogame market share that the Xbox 360 controls, Pandemic Studios decided that they should also release the game for the Xbox 360." Why not just keep this as a PS3 game until the developers confirm the 360 release. Seeing how they won't even comment on what quarter of 2007 it will be released, I think anything is possible at this point. Bufflo 02:53, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
- Indeedy. I contacted 1up for confirmation on this but havn't got a responce. I'm thinking it got caught up in thier 2,000,000 fan emails or just got ignored. Time will tell. Keaton 3:10pm, July 8, 2006. (ECT)
- Is Mercenaries 2 exclusive to the PS3?

>>>There's plenty more info saying that Bioshock is coming to PS3 as well, but it's being listed as a Xbox 360 exclusive.
- New link to updated FAQ. Bufflo 23:19, 5 August 2006 (UTC)
Many many many games have been touted as being "PS3 Exclusive" when in reality they've only JUST ONLY BEEN ANNOUNCED for the PS3, and were subsequently announced for the 360. Assasin's Creed, Virtua Fighter 5, etc. Any game that isn't being published by Sony or Microsoft could very likely to release for both consoles. This includes Bioshock, Metal Gear Solid 4, etc etc etc. However, there is a much higher chance of PS3-announced titles heading to the 360 than Xbox 360 titles heading to the PS3, due to the huge market share advantage of the Xbox 360. Also there is not "plenty of info saying that Bioshock is coming to the PS3" and Bioshock is listed NOWHERE as a "Xbox 360" exclusive (the wiki page simply states what platforms have been announced so far, and if you read, you'll notice the article has an "upcoming videogame" notice). The only info so far is OPM rumour that Bioshock is likely coming to the PS3 PyroGamer 20:17, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Controversy
[edit]Some of my additions have been deleted by anonymous user(s). I am going to restore my contributions, if somebody considers they should be deleted, we can discuss it here.JRSP 15:43, 15 July 2006 (UTC)
I have left in the contribution about controversy surrounding selection of locale of the game and removed the references to the Venezuelan Solidarity Network, which is reading very much like interest group spam.
- Ok, I restored some of the paragraph avoiding direct references to them. Also added a reference to a game-related site that mentions other sources for the criticisms. JRSP 13:39, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- This seems fair
- Ok, I restored some of the paragraph avoiding direct references to them. Also added a reference to a game-related site that mentions other sources for the criticisms. JRSP 13:39, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
I edited the Controversy section, as someone from the ip address '69.44.191.113' changed the line 'criticized by the Venezuelan government' to 'criticized by the Stupid Venisualan government'. This is my first edit, so if I did something wrong, my apologies. Is there somewhere to report this IP address to prevent this from happening again? PseudonymVoltaire 18:09, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
I'm working on the Bono article and saw this came up. It's most likely going to be removed from the Bono article because it has little to do with his musical career (90% of his exposure).
But I must ask the same question here. Why is this even mentioned? This seems to infer that Bono came up with the idea of the game. He is just a board member of a parent company. If we're going to talk about anyone, why not mention the game's writers? Mentioning Bono seems to have no relevance to me - other than the fact that he is the most famous board member of the parent company. (Someone easier to attack)
I'll be removing this soon unless someone has a good reason as to why it should stay. Chupper 04:20, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
- This controversy has been reported by The Independent and Spin. Computer games are seldom mentioned out of specialized publications. Therefore, the link to Bono is relevant to the notability of the game.—JRSP 16:06, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
- Those critical of the game's premise were specifically calling on Bono. It's part of the story and deserves a place in the controversy section. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.90.110.130 (talk) 13:35, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

"Confirmed factions include a guerilla group, an oil company, and a pirate faction."
Pandemic hasn't announced these (text in bold) on their website. Where did this information come from? Speculation? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 211.31.28.160 (talk) 05:22, 23 February 2007 (UTC).
- Forget it, found it comes from the UK Official Playstation Magazine, apparently. Verified! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 211.31.28.160 (talk) 00:45, 24 February 2007 (UTC).
The playable factions will include: Universal Pretroleum (oil company) The Guerrilla Resistance (PLAV) Pirate Gang (weapons and vehicles dealers)
Unplayable factions iclude: People's Army of Venisulea (always hostile) {needs evidence} - based on crooked governement Allied Nations Forces (friendly) People's Army of China (friendly)
The Chinese and American forces only come into play after you have done some serious damage to the Venisulean Military, as your actions as a mercary have an effect on a global scale. These forces will most likely prove useful in clearing out any remaining resistance.

Article needs srs work.
[edit]Clearly somebody got their hands on one of the pre-reserve books and went to town on the article (thank you gamestop). I can tell you which page EXACTLY some of the things I fixed came from, but that's a side note. I would clean up the article myself, but I don't really know how to fix what needs to be fixed, or if it even should just be a general rewrite. I CAN, however, point out what needs halp.
- The gameplay section is basically page-by-page from the prerelase book. I cleaned it up best I could, but an actual rewrite for that section at least would help.
- Plot should be smoothed over a little
- The mercenaries section can be touched up as SOMEBODY has to have the guide by now. I know that has more info on the mercs in it.
- Controversey is fine. It's been there since day one.
- prerelease marketing at this point is ONE TV spot. That can definately be blended into another article.
Anybody that can help with this, I would greatly appreciate it. Fluke (talk) 00:47, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
- The release is just 2 days from now, so let's wait a little before doing a major edit! Spiritaway5177 (talk) 05:32, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
PC Release Date
[edit]PC Release date isn't the same as the Console release date, PC version (in US) is coming out September 4th. http://pc.ign.com/objects/887/887412.html also Gamestop confirms this if you talk to them in store, but it still says August 31st on their website, even though it's not. —Preceding unsigned comment added by LTenhet (talk • contribs) 22:41, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

'Factions' section deleted?
[edit]Someone deleted the section outlining the characteristics of each factions. Because it's game guide content, perhaps? I still think we should have the section, reduced if necessary. Spiritaway5177 (talk) 03:50, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
- It was an IP who removed it. I've re-added it, tweak as necessary. Latics (talk) 03:56, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
- The Factions section CAN use some slimming. Perhaps more summarizing is in order? Also, it appears that the sections on the Allies and Chinese are threading the border keeping this NPOV, such as when describing the vast superiority of Allied technology ("hands down the best") and the Chinese technology, while being sturdy, not standing a chance against American Tech.
- Personal experiences with the game say otherwise, but that is exactly it: personal experience, and no weight for counter-argument Nor argument.
- Perhaps, instead of praising the Quality of faction vehicles, the Kinds or Types were discussed instead? or instead of simply saying That a faction vehicle is superior, suggest Why (Allied gunship carrying less ammo or armor, but as fast as smaller models; Chinese tanks being slower, but carrying stronger ammo and armor, etc.)

Mercenaries 2 Ramon Solano
[edit]It has been said that Ramon Solano is based on Right-Wing Dictators, well I don't think so, I think he is more like a Military Dictator with no ideological basis. The strongest things that make think that are the fact that he tries to nationalize everything (very Communist way of thinking) and he has military on the streets (like in Burma and other Military Dictatorships), normally Fascist rely on secret policesm rather then the Army and support International Corporations. One more thing are the VZ colors that use orange and red instead of blue (main colour in Fascist Regime Flags, except Italy). If someone notices anything in Flags or Dialogues that could help explain better the VZ's, please post. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.90.62.187 (talk) 03:20, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not sure on where to put him seeing as how at first I thought him to be a Communist because he was fighting the 'Capitalist Pigs' Universal Petroleum, but then the PLAV guerrillas are often referred to as the player as 'Marxist bastards' meaning that the PLAV are communists who follow a Marxist/Lenin philosophy, or possibly a Mao/Stalin philosophy. And the PLAV are supplied by the Chinese Which are communists, and then again the VZ army in that game uses a lot of Russian military equipment, much in real life.
Ewan Garrett?
[edit]On the page it currently says: "Ewan Devlin is an Irish helicopter pilot operating in Venezuela. When the player meets him, he is working for Universal Petroleum, but soon joins the player's PMC." However, on the PS2 version I'm playing, his name is Ewan Garrett (one 't' or two, I'm not sure). Is it Devlin in the other versions or not? Some more things I'm not sure about:
- Are we sure he's Irish, because I think he sounds Scottish.
- I don't remember anything about him originally working for Universal Petroleum.
- His voice actor isn't listed, neither is Misha's.
SpyHunter29 (talk) 14:21, 7 April 2009 (UTC)
- He is Irish, seeing as how in the player's PMC there is a large Irish flag hung up near to where he hangs out all the time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.163.252.155 (talk) 21:10, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

Servers down so can't turn game on while online
[edit]For the Xbox 360 if you have the game and are online with Xbox live and start the game it will freeze due to it looking for servers that no longer exist. You can only play the game while offline. I looked up some sources and have found a few detailing this. Not much of a writer though. AnyoneXiahou (talk) 03:10, 23 March 2011 (UTC)
