Notability
[edit]While the article and refs need work there's very little question of the group's notability. Regardless of often being cited as an early influence in Riot Grrrl, they easily pass WP:BAND as they have toured internationally receiving much press in the process, and have, notably, released records though a wider variety of major American independent labels, including Kill Rock Stars and Matador, than any other act. 182 mentions in Google books. Merge of David Lester
[edit]The individual notabilty of David Lester has been questioned. I have suggested that that article be merged to this one. Comments on that article's talk page are reproduced below. Wwwhatsup (talk) 20:36, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
- Subject's main claim to notability is membership of notable band Mecca Normal. While the article does mention extra-curricular activity, i.e. the book on torture, even it was a collaboration with bandmate Jean Smith. Article thus could perhaps be merged. It's good that he appears on the disambig page, as there is more than one David Lester. Wwwhatsup (talk) 04:40, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
- What drew my attention to this article was the title; although he is an artist, author and publisher, the title should reflect not what he does (many in the entertainment industry have several strings to thier bow) but what he is notable for. With titles like this, it's usually someone who has some claim to notability in several areas but doesn't meet WP:MUSIC or WP:Notability (people)#Creative professionals in any of the areas. This is my opinion of David Lester. If this is merged to Mecca Normal, I wouldn't pursue the prod to AfD, so I support the proposal. Best wishes, Boleyn3 (talk) 10:37, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
- The book, The Gruesome Acts of Capitalism, is not a collaboration with bandmate Jean Smith. David Lester's second book, a graphic novel, will be published by Arbeiter Ring in 2011. I am opposed to the proposal. Clipframe (talk) 22:58, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
- I believe David Lester meets the requirements of notability for Creative Professionals -- as a musician -- by being the co-creator of a body of work that has been the subject of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews as outlined in point 3. WP:Notability (people)#Creative professionals
To avoid a merge with the Mecca Normal page, can the title of the article be changed to reflect his notability as a musician? Clipframe (talk) 14:19, 18 July 2010 (UTC)
