Okay, cut and paste copyright problem. Why not just rewrite it? There is not a lot of info on this person though he is important in San Francisco history.

Ethncity
[edit]From all the readings, I am not seeing clear ethnicity for Herman. Both of his parents emigrated to the United States and there is mixed documentation on where they were from; often cited as Russia, Russian-Poland (which was instead known as the Russian Partition), and/or the United Kingdom. His paternal uncles were named Mordecai and Israel, so they were possibly Jewish. Adding a note here incase anyone finds RS sources or further developments.
