name change

[edit]

shouldn't the name of this article be LittleBigPlanet (PlayStation Portable)? ESTEMSHORNtalkSign 02:08, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WP:NAME states that articles should be easily recognisable and easy to find. As all video game websites and magazines, and even Sony themselves, are referring to it as LitlleBigPlanet PSP that is the most recognisable name for it and the one most likely to be searched for. Redirects can be set up for any alternatives. - X201 (talk) 08:34, 28 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The biggest video game websites and retailers I have visited refer to the game by its proper name. This includes GameSpot, GameStop, IGN, and Best Buy. --Kamasutra (talk) 07:58, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
But the publishers call it LittleBigPlanet PSP or LittleBigPlanet (PSP) ([1], [2]) - that seems to be it's actual name - so that's what we should use. Chimpanzee - User | Talk | Contribs 08:56, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It probably should be the name to avoid ambiguity. I don't know whether the reason for the discrepancy is miscommunication, using the expected name at the time, or intentional disambiguity, but I'm basing my conclusion on the majority of reliable sources (most notably the box art). There was a similar problem with Gran Turismo. As you can see from your second link, the interview is tied to the official game page on that site with the proper title.[3] And here is the official game page on the US site, where it is denoted with parentheses like the current title of this article; not that it matters, but I assume that means it isn't actually part of the title. --Kamasutra (talk) 11:30, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This is the same game... a port. I think the better question is, shouldn't the article be merged? 156.12.219.88 (talk) 04:52, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, because it's big enough to deserves its own article. Also, the official name of the game is LittleBigPlanet. Most people (including sony) refer to it as LittleBigPlanet PSP or LittleBigPlanet (PSP) to give it a distinction from the original PS3 Title. So, the name should stay LittleBigPlanet (PSP) estemshorn (talk|contrib) 05:39, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, it's not. It is a different game. --Kamasutra (talk) 01:19, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ummm, are you suggesting this article be attached to the one for the PS3 version of the game? RandwulfX (talk) 15:29, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 22 December 2024

[edit]

LittleBigPlanet (2009 video game)LittleBigPlanet (PlayStation Portable) – Per WP:NATURAL, more readers are likely to search up "LittleBigPlanet PSP" than remembering that this version of the game came out in 2009 and the PS3 one came out in 2008. HadesTTW (he/him • talk) 03:09, 22 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Pinging @MimirIsSmart for your input since you undone my move. While both the PS3 and PSP versions are titled just "LittleBigPlanet", I think it's much more sensible to have it be disambiguated based off the platform rather than the year of release. HadesTTW (he/him • talk) 03:13, 22 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This would also apply to God of War (2005 video game) and God of War (2018 video game) not being named God of War (PlayStation 2) or God of War (PlayStation 4), same case with Ridge Racer (1993 video game), Ridge Racer (2004 video game) and Ridge Racer (2011 video game). While the game is commonly associated with being on the PlayStation Portable, the article title should stay consistent with its predecessor LittleBigPlanet (2008 video game) and naming conventions. The redirect from move as well as LittleBigPlanet PSP works well enough for your reasoning. MimirIsSmart (talk) 03:33, 22 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Got it, I just read the policy For platform-specific versions where using the year would remain ambiguous: disambiguate by appending "([platform] video game)" to the title (e.g., "Final Fantasy IV (Nintendo DS video game)") on WP:NCVGDAB and I realize that the pages I was going to refer to as prior justification were actually just released in the same year. Apologies. HadesTTW (he/him • talk) 18:11, 22 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
