Some of the filmmakers listed who don't have their own pages

[edit]

I think we should make an effort to give all the filmmakers here wikipedia pages if they don't already have one. Jane Schoenbrun is one example of a filmmaker who is on the rise yet has no wiki page. Jsforman24 (talk) 20:00, 4 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Don't think it -- do it. Have enough reliable published sources to justify the creation and inclusion of a biography? Use them. Abide by MOS:BIO. Follow community guidelines. That's it. Pyxis Solitary (yak yak). Ol' homo. 05:19, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Necessity of categorization

[edit]

Hi there! New to editing this page. Is it necessary to categorize them by "trans man" "trans woman" "nonbinary?" While I get that specificity is helpful, especially as this list grows, the labels are limiting, not all too different to binaries themselves. For instance, Elliot Page has self identified as a "transgender guy" and "nonbinary" (Time), plenty of trans people (myself included) use multiple labels to categorize our gender. I see the value in both systems; just looking to discuss and/or see someone else's point of view.

I plan to add D. Smith here. Also I can alphabetize. Who entered Sir Lex Kennedy? Just wondering if Sir is a title or apart of their first name, was unclear from brief research. MiaYukino (talk) 19:37, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

First, for this list to include a name, it must have a reliable source (RS) that verifies the identification. If the RS says the individual is a trans woman -- that's how the person is identified on this list. Same goes for trans man and non-binary trans. Second, based on your history of Wikipedia contributions (Special:Contributions/MiaYukino), you may not be familiar with Wikipedia policies and guidelines. Try reading WP:LISTPEOPLE, WP:RELIABLE, and WP:NOT to get an idea of how WIkipedia works.
As for Sir Lex Kennedy ... read the source provided for the name. Pyxis Solitary (yak yak). Ol' homo. 11:51, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, I get that I'm new to this. I won't edit the page any further but you didn't answer my question. MiaYukino (talk) 11:26, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I get that changing the whole system is unnecessary but listing Elliot Page as a trans man is factually inaccurate. WP:RSPUSE lists Time as generally reliable and direct quotes from Page indicated that they identify as a trans man and nonbinary. How can that be specified. MiaYukino (talk) 11:28, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
MiaYukino's right. There's a fundamental issue with the list structure, where the subsections aren't exclusive of each other. The Time article on Elliott Page indicates that he is both non-binary and a transgender man. I think that creating separate sublists means making unnecessary choices about how to categorize transgender and non-binary people and interferes with our ability to stick to the source. hinnk (talk) 06:06, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about the user generated source. I reinserted D. Smith with a source from the guardian. Hopefully that is sufficient. MiaYukino (talk) 11:40, 11 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
