Slithery Ways, Soho Square

Hi, completely amazing list! While I was briefly in London recently I saw the sculpture "Slithery Ways" by Pieter Obels (2016) in Soho Square (image). Should it be added? Wasn't sure whether it was permanent or temporary. Cfbolz (talk) 20:25, 6 May 2018 (UTC)

Splitting up

As this article is now too large for any of the footnotes to show, the time has come for it to be split up into individual lists for each district. See the numbered list below for how I propose to do it. In the past I've already had to fork Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, Paddington and St Marylebone off this list, so this is an opportunity to treat the individual parts that make up the City of Westminster more consistently. Unfortunately, the page will have to lose its status as a featured list, but I might submit some of the smaller district lists to WP:FLC at some point in the future.

Also, in order to reduce the number of ways in which the City of Westminster lists are split, I'd like to merge the contents of the List of architectural sculpture in the City of Westminster into the new district lists. I'd welcome discussion here before I go ahead with the change and with submitting this article to WP:FLRC. Ham II (talk) 09:36, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

I trust Ham too, but this seems like rather too many sub-articles. Only Londoners will recognise some of these areas. Might one not split by postal area, apart from the parks? Or group them some other way? Johnbod (talk) 13:23, 16 June 2018 (UTC)

While I acknowledge your point on a large amount of sub-articles, I'm Australian raised of UK ancestry & I'd recognise these geographic areas over postal codes. (I know 'SW1', because of mentions in media to do with House of Lords/Commons/Westminster in general. But no others!). As it has to be split & I'd go with Ham on this as well. I considered postal areas as one way of doing it – in which case the titles would be List of public art in the City of Westminster (NW postcode area), ~(SW postcode area), ~(W postcode area) and ~(WC postcode area) – but I think it gives the false impression that those postcode areas are entirely within the City of Westminster, the postcodes are more obscure than the names of districts to someone with a passing familiarity with London, it would be a lot more work for me, and after doing it the parks would still be outside that scheme.

I also toyed with the style List of public art in the City of Westminster (Covent Garden and Strand), where I would group two districts together for the sake of keeping the number of separate lists down. Again, I think this is less user-friendly (not the most intuitive titles) and more work (creating a separate set of redirects from more intuitive titles). I don't see having a large number of lists as a problem; with the architectural sculpture added they'd all be of decent length. Even Green Park with only seven artworks and no architectural sculpture would have enough text to justify a standalone list. Ham II (talk) 07:41, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
