A very useful list
[edit]This is a very useful list. A few minor points:
- Do we really need "cricket team" in the names of teams? It was always "AER Gilligan's XI", for instance, rather than "AER Gilligan's XI cricket team". To have both XI and team in the name seems tautologous.
- Talking of AER Gilligan's XI, I can remember such a side at the Hastings festival as recently as the 1960s, so I'm puzzled why it seems to be implied that it only took the field in 1925.
- Regarding the many red links, could a few of those sides already have an article under a slightly different title (eg with pacing between initials or without full spots after initials)?

- I hope it will be useful. Personally, I would prefer not to have "cricket team" but I'm anticipating the non-cricket view and the predictable demand from people, who won't just read the lead, for a title to say what the article is about (seen it so many times). Titles can easily be changed even after the article has been launched so I'm not too bothered. The dates are incomplete and in many cases I only penciled in the team's debut date so it's quite likely that many of them will have much later final dates (I think I remember a Gilligan's team in the sixties too, now you mention it). Redlinks are a minefield as I've already discovered doing the Gentlemen list and it's a case of double-checking the possible options when starting the article.
- I'm thinking of having a section in the organiser's own article for the Someone's XI teams and then a mention in each of the county or club articles of any combination teams they participated in. On the whole, I think teams have been somewhat neglected, relative to venues which have had wide coverage. ----Jack | talk page 19:16, 10 July 2013 (UTC)
A couple of suggestions
[edit](1) How about an entry for London County Cricket Club, WG's turn of the century venture? (2) I edited the entry for T. N. Pearce's XI, as since an article by that name existed it seemed sensible to link to it. However you've edited the entry so that it is a red link once more. If you feel strongly about what the name ought to be, then how about moving the article so as to avoid the red link? JH (talk page) 17:53, 21 March 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry, I missed your edit re Pearce through working off a development version on TextPad. I've restored the link (in both environments). I thought I'd included London County but of course it was the wartime team I've got, so I've added W. G. & Co. too. Thanks for your help. Jack | talk page 19:27, 21 March 2015 (UTC)
