Comment
[edit]- remove veerabahu thevar from this page. there is no mythical (sorry pre-christian) connection of this community him. Mythology says Kallan claim their descent from Ahalya, wife of rishi Gautama —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kaikolamudali (talk • contribs) 08:22, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Untitled
[edit]Please also claim Rajput kings, Mughal kings, Pashtuns, Queen Elizabeth were also of mukkulathor community lineage
Chera
[edit]Cheras were of Villavar lineage[1][2]. The Billavas of Tulunadu of Karnataka, The Villavar Clans of Kerala who founded the Chera Kingdom all are Villavars. They are now known as Illavars/Ezhuvar in kerala. Alwar, is a titles of the Villavar tribe. For instance Kulasekara alwar was a Cheraman king. Cheras were also addressed as Keralaputras[3]. The descendants of them unified the southern Malayali states in the 18th century[4]
- LOL. The thiyas/ezhavas are not descendants of cheras. This is some nice ambulimama story cooked during british times. They got a lot of privileges under the british. Before the colonial times they were treated badly even by nairs who were only soldiers under the cheras. They are like nadars who claim ksatriya status. Sasisekar (talk) 23:14, 14 March 2010 (UTC)
Pandya
[edit]Its very clear from some sources that Pandyan emperors were Minavar or Minas lineage [5][6]. They are also known by various names such as parathavar, Bharatha kulam. The flag of the Pandiyan kingdom had fish as the emblem for the same reason [7] Pandyas have been mentioned in Silapadikaram as "Arasar murayo Bharathar murayo" . Thalayalanganathu seru vendra Pandiyan Nedunchezian was praised as தென் பரதவர் போர் ஏறே in an another Sangam work.
- Let us discuss in Maravar talk page, I will move this over there. Sasisekar (talk) 23:15, 14 March 2010 (UTC)
Chola
[edit][8] This Link says Seethalai Sathanar considered it was a degrade when a king marries a Naga princess, which proves Chola king killivalavan and that Naga princess were not of same community. Cholas were of Velir lineages, whos descendants are sub-castes of Velaalars[9]. Velir clan ruled during sangam [10]
- ithu ulagarinja visayam. This is old news. But they then mixed with us. They married tirayar princesses who belong to this community. Maravar, kallar are nagas but it is not degrading, just that they are not velir. Sozhan did not think so right? The main guy who matters did not really give a damn. He fell in love. So only the beginning generations were velir. Athanalla thaane ellarum velir ponniye katraanga. Sasisekar (talk) 04:31, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
- Early Cholas were Velirs. Even if they married Nagas, the lineage is passed only through kings. Again the successor is a Velir. Medieval Cholas had alliances with Eastern chalukyas resulting in Later Cholas being Chalukiyar. Kulothunga Chola I's father is a Eastern chalukya named Rajaraja Narendra, whose ancestors were chalukyas of Telugu culture--Kaikolamudali (talk) 09:42, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
- Kulottunga's mother was of Chola lineage right ? Isn't this why he was accepted as the King ? So the mother also contributes to half the genetic code. Sasisekar (talk) 07:11, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
- only father's lineage is inherited in a typical Patriarch society. So only Kulothunga I and his successors were known as Chalukkiya Chozas--Kaikolamudali (talk) 08:05, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
Bhils-Minas
[edit]Villavar are identical with the modern Bhils and Minavar have descendants in Minas[11]. They are supposed to be have been the most ancient immigrants event before our Tamil race[12]. The fisherman of kerala called as Arayas were also descended from Minavar [13] Martial maravars descended from Naga tribe [14][15]
Naga origin of Maravar
[edit]From Naga race(Mixed) many other Tamil castes also originated[16][17]. A Maravar were been described as Oli Nagar in a Sangam work[[18].
Pure Naga race is descended as Kuravar tribe to-Modern day Vettuvars, Kuravars Naga race(Mixed) is further sub-divided into Mallar, Maravar, Pallavar and Eyinar tribes ( Source: source: ESSAYS ON THE HISTORY OF THE TAMIL PEOPLE, LANGUAGE, RELIGION AND LITERATURE by M. Srinivasa Iyengar)
1.From Mallar tribe-Pallar, Shanar, Ezhavar, Billava, Thiyya castes originated 2.From Maravar tribe-Maravar,Agambadiyar castes originated 3.From Pallavar tribe-Kallar, Vanniyar castes originated 4.From Eyinar tribe-Kaikolar, Kammalar, Chaliyar castes originated --Kaikolamudali (talk) 07:02, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
Maravarman
[edit]The title Mara-varman means Vira-varman and its not Maravar-man(maravar arasan). Some pandyan kings had first name as Jata-varman with Varman clearly being the suffix in their first name. It was unlikely that Pandya kings were of Maravar lineage as there were no direct literary evidence. Evidences show Maravar were in the Pandya army and were also chieftains of Pandya kingdom
- I will move this to maravar talk page as it is a related topic. Sasisekar (talk) 23:23, 14 March 2010 (UTC)
Kalappirar
[edit]Kalappirar were not Maravar. It was not needed for Maravar to change their name as Kalappirar for a brief period, find a dynasty and to change their name again to Maravar. They belong to a group called Mutharasar(a caste associated with fishing tradition)[19][20] S. Krishnaswami lyengar had put a theory claiming kalvar-kallar were kalappirars but they were not-Tamils[21][22] and were from Karnataka.
Pallavar
[edit]Pallavar were from Kurubar or Pallavar tribe(source: ESSAYS ON THE HISTORY OF THE TAMIL PEOPLE, LANGUAGE, RELIGION AND LITERATURE by M. Srinivasa Iyengar). The Tribe has descended to the current day as Palli/Vanniyar, Kallar and Ambalakkarar castes. So one cannot say to which of the above three castes Pallava kings actually belong--Kaikolamudali (talk) 06:55, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
Cleanup
[edit]A lot of cleanup work is necessary with this list esp. the section on I.A.S officers and administrators. Could anyone provide sufficient evidence (I mean reliable sources) to establish the notability of those individuals? Wikipedia doesn't accept blog references. -RavichandarMy coffee shop 16:32, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Cheras, Cholas and Pandyas
[edit]I observe that someone has been adding Cheras, Cholas and Pandyas to this list. Considering the fact that another community here, the Nadars consider Pandyas as their own and have been specifying them in their articles, I insist that we resolve this issue through refs. For the time being, I've removed references to Pandyas in this article as well as from Nadar article. I urge that the claim not be reinstated until sufficient references from reliable sources be provided. Thanks-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 22:44, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
I insist on this step because there has been some unpleasant caste clashes over this.-The EnforcerOffice of the secret service 02:14, 1 March 2009 (UTC)
