Peter Lorre

[edit]

The actor Peter Lorre was a Hungarian born in what is now Slovakia, according to his Wikipedia listing. Perhaps someone would like to add him to this (rather pointless) list.

I think that the point of this list is that with the change in the borders of Hungary after World War I, if these were born more recently, they would not have been Hungarians. The underlying implication is that the Hungarian culture, and society would have been the worse for it. Of course there is nothing that would stop a person emerging as an eminent contributor to his or her 'new' country. In Hungary however there is a still alert sentiment about these issues, also given that sometimes controversial treatment of the large local minorities in the bordering countries ( see for example the situation in Romania).
