Swaminarayan

[edit]

Is he really a deity? Does he really belong in the same class as the likes of Indra and Vishnu who have been worshipped for thousands of years and praised in sacred texts? Of course some hindus will just worship anyone- including people who never claimed to be gods and who would have been horrified to learn that people were worshipping idols of them (eg. Sri Narayana Guru) --Grammatical error 19:22, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree – you have a point. Note that the article about Hindu deities defines "deities" to include "avatars of the supreme being" and the article about Swaminarayan says he was "venerated as an Avatar of Narayana" in the Swaminarayan Faith. [sd] 05:35, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Needs descriptions

[edit]

Each God should have a rudimentary description beside it describing their domain.

I.E.

  • Zeus Chief God, Thunder, Sky
  • Odin Chief God, Wisdom, War
  • Thor Thunder, Jock stock Characters
  • Kali Death, Destruction, Time, Change

I agree. Even detailed descriptions (with references) would greatly benefit the list. [sd] 05:35, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ahswhrat

[edit]

I have never heard of this one before, and lacking a wikipedia page (or in fact any relevant search results on the internet), can we delete this one? Atresta (talk) 19:02, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Layout and content of the page

[edit]

This page is about the list of Hindu deities but there is hardly any proper list here. Instead, the page is having the same copy paste content from different major deities wikipages. This page should just have general introduction about Hinduism and then there should be a PROPER list encompassing different form of Hindu deities both pan world and regional forms. What is the need of writing multiple names of Vishnu, Shiva, Brahma here. Isn't it better to just mention their different forms in the list format? Also, does the introduction written here for major god and goddesses really required here? We can just add the one liners and wikilinks related to respective forms of god. This page is about the list of Hindu deities, don't make it a look like a detailed regular wikipage. All those concerned, feel free to join the discussion and share your views. Thanks. @Kridha I notice that around 2005, this article was originally an alphabetised list of all Hindu deities, followed by their aspects in various sections. I feel that the article could be restored to this version, and if possible, minus the different sections with the aspects, since the aspects will inevitably be a point of contention and debate among various groups. Even the one-liners that accompany descriptions of the alphabetised deities could be vandalised. I agree with the deletion of the introduction. I'm in favour of a simplified, alphabetised list of deities, with their respective links, with deities without citations or Wikipedia links subject to the editors' scrutiny.
