Move?

[edit]
The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: moved to List of French NBA players. Consensus is to make this article's title consistent with titles of similar lists mentioned in the discussion. The consensus is supported by MOS:ABBR#Acronyms and initialisms in page titles, National Basketball Association being a much more prominent expansion of NBA than the alternatives (see also here). The argument that "French National Basketball Association" is ambiguous because it could be read to refer to a French organisation is also strong. The reason I wanted to change the name is because it is shorter. But I don't really have a problem with the long name since it is indeed clearer. And if this name is kept, can you please move all other articles as well? Thanks.—Chris!c/t 00:31, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, after reading User:LOL's comment, I think the abbreviated title is not unclear.—Chris!c/t 19:58, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Out of the five sports entries listed on NBA (disambiguation), three of them are associated with the National Basketball Association. Boxing organizations don't have "players" (they have "boxers", sometimes called "fighters"), and neither do the 14 non-sports entries. So besides the Nepalese (who lack an article for their basketball league and are outnumbered by the population of California alone), I don't believe the abbreviated title is less clear. MOS:ABBR#Acronyms and initialisms in page titles states that "Acronyms should be used in page naming if the subject is almost exclusively known only by its acronym and is widely known and used in that form (e.g. NASA and radar)". The two conditions seem to hold for the NBA, at least in North America and France.[1][2]LOL T/C 02:26, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
We have NBA Rookie of the Year Award vs. List of National Basketball Association player-coaches for example. There is a lot of inconsistency among articles. As per above, I support the abbreviated title.—Chris!c/t 19:58, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I also note that the other most similar articles use "NBA" (List of Turkish NBA players etc.) Is there still any opposition to this, or can we go ahead and move it to bring it in line with the others and with clarity?--Kotniski (talk) 14:04, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
