Mistake in Leabhar VIII
[edit]i cColáisde na Gaillmhe dhia Céadaoin vii. Augusti. anno MDCXLIX/in the college of Galway, 8 August 1649
In Irish it say Wednesday 7th August whereas in English it says the 8th August! Which is correct? I've tried looking up an old Julian calendar but cannot find any on the web. Jaqian (talk) 12:44, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
Name of article
[edit]This is the English language version of Wikipedia - the title of the page should be in English not Irish. The Irish version can be quoted in the article. PeterClarke 13:57, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- This is true. Calling the article "The Great Book of Irish Genealogies" might be better, perhaps leaving the Irish title as a redirect page (or perhaps as several redirects seeing as there is more than one standard way of referring to the work in Irish). ANB (talk) 14:33, 10 August 2009 (UTC)
- Only if the title of the manuscript is also widely known under the English title in English scholarship, which may be the case here. But which one?
- (The) Book of Genealogies (title in Celtic Culture, ed. Koch, is Leabhar Genealach, or Book of Genealogies)
- The Great Book of Genealogies
- Great Book of Genealogies
- The Great Book of Irish Genealogies <= Ó Muraíle's subtitle
- Great Book of Irish Genealogies
- The Great Irish Book of Genealogies
- Great Irish Book of Genealogies

- I think a few redirect pages will be necessary. I'd be inclined to go with the title Ó Muraíle gives it. Since his is the only edition, it's title likely to prove influential in future scholarship on the work. Ó Muraíle's title also has the advantage of referencing the fact that the book is of Irish genealogies, which some of the titles in current use don't make clear.
