What about an article on the Malaysia's (first English?) TV comedy series Kopitiam (TV series)? Why didn't anyone want to start it? Singapore's Phua Chu Kang has it in Wikipedia already about more than one-and-a-half years ago! Help needed (especially by local Malaysians) to substantially improve more on that article! So much work for me to do it all by myself! How BURDENSOME-lah! "Sigh!" --onWheeZierPLot 05:29, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
For Malaysian kopitiam - I don't think kopitiam refers to just the so called uncle/aunty/mr/mrs lim/ho/kwans etc. Doesn't kopitiam mean coffee shop, and thus includes the typical old school wooden chair ones, as well as those new ones with ugly plastic chairs? 219.94.57.210 13:33, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
etymology
[edit]what are the chances that the name came directly from hokkien? is kopi the malaysian word for coffee? i'm just curious coz in teochew (very close to hokkien), a coffee shop is something like "gubi diam" or "kupi tiam". even though the word for coffee is also borrowed in chinese, it just sounds like it could come directly from hokkien itself —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.147.43.82 (talk) 01:37, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- When you referred to the term "Malaysian", were you talking about the Malay language? - Two hundred percent (talk) 03:44, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

'C' == Carnation
[edit]The explanation (which may not be the only valid one) I have been given for 'C'/'Si' is that it denotes evaporated milk (as most widely represented by the 'Carnation' brand, hence the 'C'. Sejtam (talk) 13:23, 6 December 2015 (UTC)
