Intro

[edit]

Very many wikipedia articles have information about etymology in their intros. It is useful and encyclopedic. Only pure dicdef stubs are transwikied (not simply) to wiktionary. Therefore the intro is restored. Mukadderat (talk) 03:56, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of useful non-trivial noteworthy information not present anywhere in the project for formal reasons is against the spirit of the project. Mukadderat (talk) 06:54, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation pages are not "articles", strictly speaking. They are primarily navigational aids to help readers select between articles that might otherwise share the same title. Such extraneous links are unsupported by the WP:MOSDAB. Properly, all of the unreferenced dictionary etymology should be removed. olderwiser 22:44, 18 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
We are talking oranges and apples. I am telling you Deletion of useful non-trivial noteworthy information not present anywhere in the project for formal reasons is against the spirit of the project. and you fail to rebut my argument. I am not arguing whether this page article or not. I am speaking about the dangerous attitude which puts formalism blindly in front of useful information. When we have a dicdef article, the AfD votes are typically "Move to wiktionary". But here you just want to delete without any pity for lost info. I am sorry for you guys and for the project that preservation of information is not your first priority. Allah will probably forgive you, and wikipedia will probably not notice this small glitch here. Mukadderat (talk) 15:52, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You added unsourced content that was not appropriate for a disambiguation page. If there was something more than unsourced dict def material, it might have been possible to move it into some other article. But that was not the case. If you want the so-called "useful information" to remain, 1) it needs a verifiable source and 2) it needs a home other than a disambiguation page. olderwiser 19:17, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently a reflexive quality. olderwiser 23:53, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I Need clarification on a Afghani picture

[edit]

Please help: See this picture (file):

Mir Alam of Kohistan region in Afghanistan

What is this warrior’s name? Mir Alam or Meer Alum?

Which sub-division of Kohistan (disambiguation page), does this picture apply to?

"Ko-i-staun foot soldiery in summer costume. This lithograph is taken from plate 12 of 'Afghaunistan' by Lieutenant James Rattray. This Kohistani is Mir Alam, formerly one of a band of noted robbers on the road to Turkestan, north-west of Begram. Rattray wrote: "Coistaun has always been remarkable for the war-like character of its inhabitants, who average some forty thousand families famous for the efficiency and excellence of their Pyadas (foot-soldiery)…"

Any other thoughts or info would be useful... ThanksBeckenhamBear (talk) 18:56, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
