I think it's random, but the dollar is an important currency in Israel (most rents are set at the dollar rate rather than in shekels for instance). Number5721:02, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I didn't know that about rents. I do remember, like decades ago when inflation in Israel was real bad, visiting with my family; my dad was in a store and all he had to buy something was an American $20 bill, and all the shoppers in the store sort of formed an impromptu syndicate to buy shares of that $20 bill and change it into Israeli currency.
