The founder of Kerewan is called Mamadi Saffiatou Fatty, and hence the Fattys are always the village heads. When Mamadi finnaly decided to settle in Kerewan, he rested under a tree called by the locals as "Kesekoi". I am not sure what year this was since this knowledge was pass on from mouth to mouth by local forklore. It is however, important to note that most of the Gambia history were not documented over the years and people rely on elderly individuals to pass down history by word of mouth from generation to generation. There are three "Kabilos" in Kerewan. These Kabilos are Fatty Kunda, Ceesay Kunda, and Jawara Kunda. Almost all the other lastnames identify with one of thses three "Kabilos" . The People of Kerewnan Also hold annual recitation of the Holy Quran and all natives who are able makes this a matter of priority to attend the occasion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 160.10.98.202 (talkcontribs)
