The statement below is false.

Kambaldaite was first described in 1985 from the gossan of the Otter Shoot nickel orebody, Kambalda, during mining of the gossanous material. Kambaldaite, though in lesser and rarer amount, is also found in the Widgiemooltha nickel gossans, probably discovered there in the early to mid 1990s.

Kambaldaite was discovered during or before 1969 at Kambalda, WA. I and several other geologists employed [at that time] by Kennecott Explorations, were given a tour of the Kambalda mine and area by a staff geologist from Western Mining. In an exploration trench, we were shown a vein of a nickel carbonate mineral. According to the Western Mining geologist, the name for the mineral was kambaldaite. I think this tour was conducted in April of 1969. We were allowed to take samples of this mineral and split the samples up among us. In the fall of 1971, I donated my piece of the kambaldaite to the mineral collection of the University of Rhode Island. Dr. Hermes took the donation. Others there that day can testify to this story.
