To be abundantly clear, this is from Kökar's official website, in Finnish: Tervetuloa Kökariin!
Kökar on pieni kunta Ahvenanmaan lounaissaaristossa...

For anyone who can read Finnish, that ought to settle it.-- NordicStorm (t/c) 10:41, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The alleged Finnish name is indeed not even unofficial but constructed by nationalist Fennomans. Therefore, I remove the information as redundant. Icarus1978 22:01, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well by the way, I was checking some geography school books from the 70s, and it had this municipality named as Köökari in the maps etc. So, should we say they were swedicized by the svecomans!? ;) Hehe, anyway, they atleast were used. --Pudeo (Talk) 21:54, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Here is the image of the map: [1]. --Pudeo (Talk) 13:53, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That may well be the case, but given its rare usage and non-official status it's immaterial to the article. "Holmen" is a common colloquialism for Åland among Ålanders, but that doesn't mean the article on Åland should start off with (unofficial Swedish: Holmen). That would just be silly. And the official Finnish name for "Kökar" is "Kökar".-- NordicStorm (t/c) 10:04, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
See this map from Maanmittauslaitos (The National Land Survey of Finland). No "Köökari" on there.-- NordicStorm (t/c) 10:33, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Because Maanmittauslaitos uses only official names, but Köökari is secondary finnish name to Kökar and also in particular use. --83.102.5.106 13:53, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I'm sure you in particular use it (and I assume Kökar comes up for discussion often), but a rarely used and non-official name has no place in the article. -- NordicStorm (t/c) 15:54, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I cant see any reason why to remove finnish name, have you? I have see many articles about inner-Finland where has placed swedish name so why not finnish name in majority swedish article? Swedish and Finnish is both as worth as languages. --Jommala 21:22, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The reasons are detailed above. The Finnish name is "Kökar", and that's what in the article. For you to suggest that it has something to with "worth as languages" is, quite frankly, insulting.-- NordicStorm (t/c) 21:28, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Not enough...you, MoRse and Silenzio with IP:s have inserted many swedish names to purefinnish article like in North-Karelia, Savo exemple...would you please remove them please, because we dont neither wanna that former occupied contry names are used from our home. If you wont so we have also right to place finnish name to pureswedish articles. We have also references about name but you havent. --Jommala 07:33, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have done no such thing. If you have problems with other articles, then deal with those articles yourself. This article is about Kökar.-- NordicStorm (t/c) 10:01, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
But it's good to know your motivation for editing articles is "avenging" edits to other articles.-- NordicStorm (t/c) 10:09, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And as for "pureswedish" and "purefinnish" and "occupied country"...it's becoming abundantly clear that your motivations are less than "pure". Please stop with this exercise in inanity. Kökar is called "Kökar" in Finnish. -- NordicStorm (t/c) 10:24, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And also Köökari --Jommala 11:49, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi guys, it seems like you're in the middle of an edit war right now. I won't touch this subject with a 30-meter pole, but let me just remind you of Wikipedia's three-revert policy. If you break it, you risk getting blocked. I suggest you take this dispute to another place, like the talk page of WikiProject: Finland. Cheers. --ざくら 12:47, 19 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It is sad that Wikipedia is too often polluted by passive-aggressive haters. The attempt to establish "Köökari" is clearly an attempt of historical falsification of facts, and cultural heritage of certain geographical areas.

To add the name "Köökari" to the english language wikipedia entry for Kökar, is as relevant as the entry "Austria, country in the Alps. In finnish called Itävallat". —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mhh6 (talkcontribs) 15:27, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not really if you consider the fact that Åland has been a part of Finland for hundreds of years, something that Austria hasn't. --ざくら 19:36, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Åland has been a part of Finland since 1921. "Finland" is a state, "finnish" is a language. They are not the same. The widespread knowledge of this fact would make many places (and Wikipedia) better places than they are today.

Maybe it would also be relevant to ask a few of the sami people if they also want to claim any sami nickname of Kökar as an official name on Wikipedia. Mhh6 (talk) 20:58, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

grave

[edit]

Where is the grave of a Franciscan monk? I have been searching around the church of Kökar, but I could not find a trace of it. Could it be removed? Or is the grave somewhere else? Erik Wannee (talk) 16:08, 5 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
