Review

Lead section

• Unlink United States of America; World War II (MOS:OL).
• Remove the children’s names from the infobox (they are not notable, see here).
• The infobox states he was a professional soldier. Was he?
• Ben Franklin five and dime variety store  - is a sea of blue (MOS:SOB). Ditto West Virginia governor William C. Marland.
• (1834–1903) – I’m not sure why his dates (and a few others that follow) are needed.

1 Early life and education

• Unlink primary education (it's a universally understood term).
• Unlink degree, as it follows the link to BSc.
• Do we know his father’s or mother’s professions?
• Blue received his primary education in the public schools of Romney. - delete, it's not encyclopaedic.

• Unlinked first two and added professions for both parents. I've kept his primary education as part of his biography, but can remove if absolutely necessary. Thank you so much again for your feedback and guidance! -- West Virginian (talk) 13:19, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

2.1 Military career

• Unlink World War II; enlisted (they don't “aid the reader’s understanding”).
• He enlisted as a private in the U.S. Army at the age of 37 on November 20, 1942, in Clarksburg, West Virginia. There are two citations for this simple fact – surely only one is needed. Ditto many other examples of (imo) unnecessary multiple citations in the article. I would remove those that are not required.
• Blue served in the United States Army during World War II. - is redundant, as the it is implied by the following sentence.
• Military career/Business career/Educational career – these single paragraph subsections are better off in a single subsection (presumably called ‘Early career’).
• (photographed in March 1938) – the italics should be removed.
• He enlisted as a private in the U.S. Army at the age of 37 on November 20, 1942. This is the first we hear of Blue following his education. Is there information about his working life before he was enlisted?

• I incorporated all the changes related to these comments. In this case, I kept the multiple citations as each one supports different content in the sentence. I'll go through these succeeding citations to thin them down some! Also, there is not a lot of information about Blue in the 1930s and 1940s preceding his service in the military. 2.2 Business career

2.3 Educational career

• Link Boy Scout Troop (Scout troop).
• Blue resigned as principal – for any particular reason?
• Blue served as principal – OK, he was a head teacher? Did he not have any teaching experience before becoming a principal?
• Blue seems to have been a teacher from at least 1932 to 1952 and a politician from 1953 to 1958. Did he give up teaching to be a politician?

• Linked scout troop. I could not find why Blue resigned as principal, and while I cannot confirm, I believe this was done to focus on the variety store business. The sources point to his affiliation with the school beginning in 1933, so I removed the mention about him serving at the school for 20 years. 2.4 Political career

• West Virginia governor William C. Marland  - sea of blue.
• In 1958 he failed to get on the ballot. Do we know why?
• Blue's final defeat seems to be in 1962, but it might be a good idea to clarify when his political life ended.
• Do we know what he did after 1960 (i.e. from the age of 55 until his death 5 years later)?
• Do we know what he achieved as a politician? If anything is found it could be included in the lead section.
• Link sheriff (Sheriffs in the United States).

• I added some additional information on his later political life. He failed to get on the general ballot in 1958 because he lost in the primary elections earlier that year. Unfortunately, I was only able to find the information that I added, and could not find more on his legislative achievements. • The house and headstone images add nothing relevant to the article and should be deleted, unless they are noteworthy.
• John Angus McDowell Blue (1943–2019), an attorney, married to Elizabeth Alt Julia Tait Blue Weir David Stanford Blue – it’s not clear why the names of his children are noteworthy. I would remove this text.

3.2 Affiliations

• This subsection—apart from the statement Blue was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Romney and was elected to its board of directors in 1962. is not noteworthy to be included in the article.

• I merged the personal life section into two paragraphs. I removed the content about the eldest son being an attorney. I wanted to keep his community involvement information, but can remove this if absolutely necessary. I really appreciate your comments, suggestions, and guidance. Not yet sorted. Not all information about a person's personal life has to be included, and unless they are noteworthy, facts about the church Blue attended, what local committees he served on, and what clubs belonged to, should not appear in the article. AM

4 Later life and death

• Unlink Augusta, West Virginia (already linked).
• The Rev. L. T. West conducted his funeral service at the Romney Presbyterian Church – is not noteworthy and should be deleted.
• Blue was survived by his wife, his three children, and his sisters Mrs. Bruce Whitfield and Mrs. Henry Hollenberg. This sort of information is nor normally included in Wikipedia biographies.
