Trump announcement
[edit]President Trump's announcement was that he'd remove several members, including the chair, not all members (per the cited article). I can't edit because it's semi-locked, but someone should fine-tune that section. 174.109.90.136 (talk) 02:53, 8 February 2025 (UTC)
- I think the current entry on this, as written at one point (and I realize it is early), fails to address the fact that there are two issues here: the dismissal of board members and the fact that Trump is installing himself as Chairperson of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. A post on Bluesky by Phil Williams points out that both actions may be illegal.
- On the former issue, the text currently referenced to justify that it is likely legal is:
(b) General trustees
- The general trustees shall be appointed by the President of the United States. Each trustee shall hold office as a member of the Board for a term of 6 years, except that-
- any member appointed to fill a vacancy occurring before the expiration of the term for which the predecessor of the member was appointed shall be appointed for the remainder of the term;
- a member shall continue to serve until the successor of the member has been appointed; and
- the term of office of a member appointed before July 21, 1994, shall expire as designated at the time of appointment.
- On the latter issue, it would appear that the relevant text is:
(1) Chairperson and Secretary
- The Board shall appoint and fix the compensation and duties of a Chairperson of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, who shall serve as the chief executive officer of the Center, and a Secretary of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The Chairperson and Secretary shall be well qualified by experience and training to perform the duties of their respective offices.
- The former text states that trustees are appointed by the president for a term of 6 years. It also indicates what the exceptions would be to the 6 year term and fails to include dismissal by the president as one of the exceptions (which would be contrary to the revision which claimed that this may be legal).
- The latter text states that the Chairperson of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is appointed by the board (not the president of the United States of America). Cosmicaug (talk) 10:06, 8 February 2025 (UTC)
- As per their own statement, there isn't nothing stopping being the president of the United States from doing what he just did https://www.kennedy-center.org/kennedy-center-statement/ so yes President Trump is now in charge of the Kennedy center of the performing arts and you absolutely posted nothing that contradicts what he just did 217.180.216.90 (talk) 23:00, 8 February 2025 (UTC)
- There's nothing stopping him, but it hasn't officially happened yet. He also can't directly make himself chair as the board members appoint the chair, so he won't be chair until he gets a new board in. JDDJS (talk to me • see what I've done) 23:59, 8 February 2025 (UTC)

Description of President Trump
[edit]Calling President Trump a fascist is a political opinion, not a fact, and should urgently been removed. 2A01:599:305:B888:FC11:832D:6340:7DE2 (talk) 08:08, 8 February 2025 (UTC)
Done by someone else. That was vandalism. We try to catch vandalism quickly, but sometimes it stays up for a couple mintues. Sorry about that! –Novem Linguae (talk) 10:25, 8 February 2025 (UTC)
Trump should be not listed as chairman until it is official
[edit]Trump has only announced his plans and hasn't actually replaced the board yet. According to center's response to his comments, he also cannot directly make himself chair as the is selected by the board. [1] So it will likely be at least a few days before he will be officially the chair, and there's no guarantee that he even goes through with it at this point. - Agreed -- and the article was since updated to note the points you make here -- but four days later, it's official. (And that's been noted too.)
- What weird times we live in. NME Frigate (talk) 21:55, 12 February 2025 (UTC)
- This is such a weird state for everything to be in cause to Trump it’s an official declaration but to reality it hasn’t been implemented but the well of information is so poisoned it’s hard to tell what is and isn’t true at this point. It’s just such a confusing and chaotic time to live so I do agree with you it’s just hard to tell what’s real. InternetEnigma (talk) 01:50, 13 February 2025 (UTC)
- With today's events under our belts, I should remind our fellow editors that we need to conform to a neutral point of view and leave opinion out of the article. The upset in management is extremely controversial and naturally contentious, but we're not in a position to inform readers that they need to react negatively. BOTTO (T•C) 02:20, 13 February 2025 (UTC)
- This article is not very clear in explaining how Trump had the authority to take this over. Is this an organization run by the White House? I’m not trying to be political, but this is a huge information gap 72.219.164.240 (talk) 06:59, 14 February 2025 (UTC)
Need section of controversies
[edit]Need a section explaining objections to the management of the center that lead to President Trump's decision to replace the board and become chairman. Eni2dad (talk) 16:32, 14 February 2025 (UTC)
