[edit]This appears to be a vanity page.
- A vanity page, o nameless one? What do you mean? Are you saying Darnielle wrote this himself? And your basis for saying that is...? Have you honestly never heard of the guy? If not, then it's time to get a clue. Darnielle certainly isn't world famous, in fact most people have never heard of him, but on the other hand he's far from unknown. -Colin 70.59.142.151 17:43, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
- Agreed. Darnielle is widely recognized in independent/underground music circles, and has toured the world multiple times. He's got an interview on Amazon.com that came out right before or right after the Mountain Goats album The Sunset Tree was released. He may not be pop culture, but he is far from nameless. Mellesime 13:06, 3 MAY 2006
- He's pretty underground, but he is on Pitchfork
- He's also been written about in the New Yorker - Blim8183 00:14, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
Can we please get a new photo for this page? That's quite possibly the most unflattering shot of Darnielle that exists. Surely a brief trip to Google can produce something even slightly more attractive? Pariah23 04:46, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
A brief trip to Flickr can produce many things many times more attractive shot by Lalitree Darnielle, who posts her photography there. Search for "lalitree". Grammargal 00:39, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
I added a much-needed mention of his wife Lalitree. -Adam, 10 July 2007
Mixed martial arts and prizefighting? I don't find any references to those on Last plane to jakarta or johndarnielle.com.. 128.2.57.56 18:24, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Pronunciation
[edit]Is it /dɑːrnˈjɛl/ (darn-YELL) or /dɑrˈniːl/ (dar-NEEL)? Lfh (talk) 18:44, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure it was pronounced /dɑrˈniːl/ (dar-NEEL) when he was on The Colbert Report —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.54.116.75 (talk) 06:09, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
His age
[edit]This seems like kind of a big oversight, at no point is the year of his birth or his age mentioned. Just a little thing that really should be included in a biography. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.80.40.237 (talk) 01:24, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
In the WTF Podcast with Marc Maron John says that he's 46. So he was born in 1966. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.191.78.33 (talk) 06:15, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
On twitter today, he wrote his year of birth was 1967. On wtfpod, he was likely anticipating his upcoming birthday (which is today).--Subwoofer (talk) 17:09, 16 March 2013 (UTC)
Nurse?
[edit]It says that after high school he went to work as a nurse, but "nurse" is a protected title that includes Licensed Practical Nurses and Registered Nurses, both of which require further education after high school. It's possible that he did become a nurse very quickly after high school, but it would still require an additional year of education-- basically, I just really want to know if he was a nurse or a CRMA or a CPS or CNA or if he was actually a nurse. Does anyone know, or know how to find out? I love how the experience has shaped his lyrics, regardless. 74.75.144.163 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 19:41, 2 April 2011 (UTC). This article states that he was a psychiatric nurse technician i.e. a nurse's aide :http://nymag.com/arts/popmusic/features/55031/index1.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by 138.237.66.32 (talk) 20:56, 16 June 2011 (UTC)
As it turns out vegetarianism is musical
[edit]I don't want to edit it myself because I don't know how to properly edit Wikipedia and don't care to find out, but surely the part about his status as a vegetarian shouldn't be under "Musical Career," right? I really don't think it has anything to do with his musical career and should definitely not be in that section but I don't know where else to put it, so I'd appreciate someone with more experience doing it. 84.111.255.31 (talk) 11:45, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
ILM pseudonym
[edit]There is a small edit war going on between myself and one or more anonymous editors regarding my addition to the 'Writing' section of the article, which gives the pseudonym under which Darnielle writes on the I Love Music message board. The information keeps getting removed and I keep putting it back. This time I've also added links to a couple of ILM threads which confirm that aerosmith is Darnielle. This is an open secret on ILM and I see no reason why it should be kept private to that message board. The information is relevant to Darnielle's activities as a writer and musician. No further reverts should take place until the matter has been discussed on this talk page and consensus reached. --Viennese Waltz 10:01, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
- I wouldn't count that sourcing as being from a reliable source. Message board postings are not self-authenticating; it really could be anybody saying it's him. Even if it is him, without a reliable source, it shouldn't be in Wikipedia, especially not a biography of a living person. If it comes out in an interview or he posts about it on an "official" media channel, then we have proper sourcing. Studerby (talk) 14:34, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
- Message board posts can hardly be categorized as official writings of a person, especially if he uses a pseudonym while posting to the board. So why does this information need to be in the article in the first place? Undoubtedly many celebrities write to message boards, but I've never seen anyone else's message board alter ego linked to his Wikipedia page.
Expansion of song series paragraph and addition of sources
[edit]Just wanted to note my edit and ask for anyone's feedback/thoughts as I'm pretty new at this - was just sick of seeing 'This section needs sources', haha. Hope it's up to scratch and thanks in advance ScorpionSquadron (talk) 13:27, 4 September 2020 (UTC)
