Writing About Influences of John Brown

[edit]

I want to write about the effect of Brown's work, specifically who he has influenced. I would like to mention famous people who drew from Brown's ideas and Brunonian medicine, since this article seems to lack information on the effects of his work. I would like to use the following sources: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2557344/pdf/medhistsuppl00039-0070.pdf https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2557343/pdf/medhistsuppl00039-0082.pdf Krahaman1 (talk) 02:51, 3 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Feedback on article

[edit]

Great job on your article! This is a topic I was very interested in from our class discussions, so I'm glad to see the article was expanded. Here are a few suggestions I had based on my initial read:

1. The biography section is pretty long and dense. Would it be possible to break it down into smaller subsections? (e.g. early life, theory/work, criticisms, publications, death, legacy)

2. I was a bit confused by this part: “Brown argued that any symptoms of disease or behavior which strayed from that of a healthy individual suggested over-excitement of the body. For instance, even a person presenting as weak had been over-excited.” If that's the case, what would it take to qualify as "under-stimulation," i.e. asthenic state? Could you clarify the distinction?

Overall, awesome work. Looking forward to reading your updates!

Thank you for the feedback! I will definitely work on breaking up the sections into smaller ones. I will also try to adjust that section about excitement of the body, and most likely take out that piece since it seems to contradict what other sources stated. Comments

[edit]

This article is very informative and gives a very good detailed account of Brown's theories and ideas. My one criticism/advice would be to keep the biography section purely about John Brown's biography. A majority of the stuff in the biography section can be categorized into other sections such as theories/ideas etc. When that is done, you'll find that there isn't much information given about John Brown's personal life and history. More research can be done in that area, which could contribute greatly to your article by providing a background and context to all of the information you provide. Substantively, you did a great job and some organization could make it even better! Samuelkou (talk) 03:49, 17 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the feedback! I will definitely try to break up the sections a bit more into better categories. Krahaman1 (talk) 23:10, 26 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This article lacks citations in many sections, does not seem comprehensive, and has a maintenance tag, so I will have to quickfail it. --FunkMonk (talk) 10:12, 25 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
