Addendum: could we find out what the consensus is on this? Yes, WP:BLP says "Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a tabloid paper; it is not our job to be sensationalist". I really don't see the need for this even if it is sourced and true it has very little bearing on her artistic career. WP:BLP states
Biographies of living persons must be written conservatively, with regard for the subject's privacy. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a tabloid paper; it is not our job to be sensationalist, or to be the primary vehicle for the spread of titillating claims about people's lives. The possibility of harm to living subjects is one of the important factors to be considered when exercising editorial judgment.

I agree with Gordon, while it may not seem to be necessary in a scholarly examination of her works, in an article about the artist it certainly seems noteworthy. As it's in the title of the article and is presented as a story of transformation, it seems to be notable. Perhaps it could be phrased in in a way that is more consistent with the article's discussion of her becoming an artist. This would make it seem less gratuitous.
