The article claims Jim Hunt left office on January 1, 2001, but Mike Easley didn't take office until January 6th. This is clearly an error, but I can't find a source that clarifies when the NC Gubernatorial Inauguration is supposed to be held? 69.134.241.0 (talk) 22:37, 15 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The News and Observer (Raleigh) ran an article in January, 2013 when Pat McCrory was inaugurated, stating that there is an NC constitutional ambiguity on this point. Apparently, the old term ends 1/1, & the new governor has legal power on New Year's Day. But the new governor rarely assume the visible perks of office until an inaugural ceremony several days later.
