Requested move
[edit]I propose renaming jig (fishing) to jigging. This is in alignment with an already established practice in Wikipedia of naming fishing articles after the the technique (activity) rather than the tackle (equipment). Thus we have an article for trawling which includes the notion of a "trawl", and an article for gigging which includes the notion of a "gig". --Geronimo20 (talk) 06:29, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
Merge from Jig and pig
[edit]Could someone knowledgeable merge in the following from jig and pig and create a redirect over there? Thanks! AniRaptor2001 (talk) 17:46, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
A generic term describing a fishing lure consisting of a weighted hook(jig) to which one of any number of artificial lures are added. Originally, pork rind baits were used, putting the "pig" in the name "jig and pig". Principally used by North American anglers targeting largemouth (Micropterus salmoides), and smallmouth(Micropterus dolomieu) bass. Undressed lure weights range from 1/4 to 1 ounce and often include a plastisol "skirt" of many filaments. Lure is primarily fished on the bottom by dragging or hopping, with swimming the lure is also an effective presentation.
