- article gives many signs of WP:PROMO. Very bad sourcing; many SPS and youtube etc. Jytdog (talk) 21:47, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
This page should not be speedy deleted because...
[edit]Please allow me to introduce my self, my name is Prima Subiakto and I love adventure, so my username is AdvPrima. I am not affiliated or work with any advertising company or anything related with promotion. I am Indonesian but stay in South America. The article I wrote is not an advertising, The article is a translation of Bahasa Indonesia article. The result of direct translation using automatic translator, created a different meaning from the original article, so I took the initiative to wrote it. In addition, the source of the article can be accounted and reliable in Indonesia. Please take a little time to search information of Jeffrey Polnaja in google, you will find the same information in accordance with article I wrote. I do not find any reason why the article should be deleted. As the first Indonesian who circumnavigated the world more than 90 countries, Polnaja deserve to have the article. I believe he doesn’t need to promote anything, because he is very well know in Indonesia.. Yes, I am a beginner in ‘wiki world’ and still far from perfect. If my article that I contributed is less than perfect in grammar, please advice me. Many thanks for your attention… Cheers ! --AdvPrima (talk) 23:26, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
- Dennis Bratland you removed the speedy tag. i am ok with that. i notice you are a motorcyle person - are you interested in doing the heavy lifting to see if this can be an article in WP-en? I don't think it is OK for an article here, to rely this heavily on non-English sources and it is going to take a lot of work to see if enough good ones can be found, to retain this. Thoughts? Jytdog (talk) 00:47, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
- Jytdog can you point to a policy that backs your statement that we shouldn't rely on non-English sources? The applicable thing I'm aware of is WP:NONENG which merely says (parapherase follows) English is preferred when available. — Brianhe (talk) 01:06, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
- I cannot! that is why i said "i don't think it is OK" instead of "it is not oK"! (i started searching talk archives of VERIFY but our search engine just sucks.. argh.) now that the speedy tag is off, my next move will be to start tagging the non-english sources for translation, and if they are not translated i will delete them. i'll also start to look for english sources, but since this is your world, i thought you might be more interested in that... so. do you want to? Jytdog (talk) 01:22, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
- My world? No, just an active editor. However I'm sure this article is bulletproof against deletion (i.e. WP:SNOWBALL) with valid citations to El Mercurio, China People's Daily, DAWN and the Indonesian embassy's press release at least. — Brianhe (talk) 01:27, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
- or brianhe so sorry i thought you were the editor i pinged above whose user page is covered in motorcyle pictures! sorry Jytdog (talk) 01:31, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure Dennis will say about the same thing about not WP:OWNing the article. Please do not delete sources just because they have not been translated. — Brianhe (talk) 02:06, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
- if content cannot be verified, it needs to go. i said i would follow policy, not OWN anything. Jytdog (talk) 04:12, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry, that's not how it works. The fact that you can't read it doesn't mean it can not be verified. Even if the source was offline and in Swahili you must assume good faith and leave it intact. One person doesn't get to judge a source as unusable because it is inaccessible to him/her alone. — Brianhe (talk) 05:02, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
- I hear you. but if no one can translate it, it is as good as nothing. in any case, if my deletion were contested i reckon we would take it to a noticeboard and get community input. it never has to become personal, and should never. this is all theoretical anyway Jytdog (talk) 05:14, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
- Jytdog, have you requested that any of the non-english sources be translated? As the policy at WP:NONENG states, "Citations to non-English sources are allowed. However, because this is the English-language Wikipedia, English-language sources are preferred over non-English ones whenever English sources of equal quality and relevance are available. As with sources in English, if a dispute arises involving a citation to a non-English source, editors may request that a quotation of relevant portions of the original source be provided, either in text, in a footnote, or on the article talk page." I can hardly believe that you even consider deleting a source in another language than your own just because you cannot read it. I believe there are templates available if you wish to request a translation of any sources. AGF here, I hope you did not really mean that? WordSeventeen (talk) 05:44, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
- you didn't read what i wrote. crazy that you wrote so much without knowing what you are reacting to! Jytdog (talk) 09:02, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
- I read what you wrote especially this part, "if content cannot be verified, it needs to go." and "I hear you. but if no one can translate it, it is as good as nothing." I know much more than you think. Cheers! WordSeventeen (talk) 11:07, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
- I meant way above, where i said i would tag first. Jytdog (talk) 12:11, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
