Hello, I will be collaborating on this page as part of a school project. Below is my intended work plan.

Language

• increase general readability and simplify medical jargon

• reduce run-on sentences

• simplify lengthy paragraphs

Intro

• add wikilinks for relevant terms to improve interconnection of topics

• investigate reference 1 and update hyperlink

• define terms such as "axial loading" to improve readability

Signs and Symptoms

• include wikilink for bruising

• rephrase sentence structure

• expand on the potential duration of symptoms, particularly related to the severity of the injury

Causes

• eliminate the word "recreational"

• expand on the current description of activities and mechanisms that cause a jammed finger in order to be more comprehensive

• include more details on pathogenesis related to various activities that can lead to injury

Diagnosis

• include wikilinks for relevant terms, especially those medically related to improve reader understanding

• remove portion of 1st paragraph describing urgency to seek medical attention and prognosis and insert into new section titled "Prognosis"

• after 1st paragraph, insert a subsection titled "Types & Severity of Injury"

• review current criteria of rating sprain severity and update description and references in 2nd paragraph if necessary

• include description of differing anatomy of the thumb from other digits in paragraph 3

• rephrase/rewrite portion describing x-ray evaluation of potential dislocations

• expand on the definition of a fracture when defined in paragraph 4

Treatment

Prevention

References

• review all references to ensure no primary sources are used

• verify they are up to date with the current medical consensuses related to this type of injury All0626 (talk) 17:19, 8 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

It seems like you accomplished the goals that you set out in your work plan! The article is concise but gets all the relevant points across and I like the organization. I checked some of the reference links and your sources seemed appropriate. Some specific thoughts:
- Paragraphs and sentences seemed a good length. Only suggestion to improve readability would be possibly the use of sub-headings or some way to break up longer sections (ex. In dislocation section, can have headings for volar vs lateral dislocations or bold the terms)
- I liked the addition of wikilinks to medical terms. I would add a few more, for terms such as DIP/PIP, internal fixation, etc. that non-medical readers might not know.
- I like the separate paragraph for prognosis, as I’m sure this is one of the first questions patients would have, and this makes it easier to find in the article.
- Diagnosis and Treatment sections are very informative and it's helpful that you checked/updated the information to reflect current guidelines.
- The picture that you made yourself is great! Mi212527 (talk) 06:58, 27 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the feedback. I took your suggestions on adding wikilinks for more terms. I also like the idea of bolding some of the primary topics in various paragraphs to improve readability. All0626 (talk) 01:54, 30 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
