The quote given in the article doesn't seem to be verbatim from the recommendation, which is available (along with that for several of his other decorations) from The National Archives - see http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/search-results.asp?searchtype=browserefine&query=first_name%3dstanley%7clast_name%3dhill&catid=22&pagenumber=1&querytype=1&mediaarray=* Skinny, drop me a note on my talkpage if you want a look at these. I thought I'd mention that there seems to be a shift in the focus of the article in the middle where it seems to ramble off into a description of what the various units he commanded achieved rather than what Hill did. --217.206.99.134 (talk) 16:08, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, that's because I have no idea what Hill did, to put it bluntly! He didn't leave a memoir or autobiography, so I'm bound by what the secondary sources give me, and that often isn't much; for the Ardennes period, for example, I know nothing, and the same for much of Normandy. If it wasn't for Major General Thompson's rather 'chatty' and informal history, I doubt there'd be much personal detail at all. So, I apologize if it seems to ramble on, but I did my best. Awards and Decorations

[edit]

I've just added a new section for the above - I think if anyone deserves one, he does!

I can't see any mention anywhere online about Brigadier Hill being awarded the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada Medal, but it can be seen on his medal rack pictured here:

Not sure how to handle sourcing of that item, help please! --> alanfdow (talk) 10:16, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

-- on my to-do list: try and find actual award dates from the Gazette. It's a bit vague as it stands. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alanfdow (talkcontribs) 10:25, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
