the wikipedia biography is all very factual and correct, but it doesn't give much of a FLAVOR of the type of movies mendoza nava scored and the kind of music he wrote for them. sure, mendoza nava was a musical prodigy. sure, he studied under nadia boulanger and completed his conservatory studies in record time. he had talent. it's what he did with that talent which is in question.
during the seventies and eighties, it seemed that jaime mendoza nava was the "go to" hack whenever a b movie producer needed to have a movie scored (along with gene kauer, douglas lackey, william loose, and a few others). mendoza nava was cheap, quick, and available, seemingly always willing to squeeze another low budget scoring gig into his schedule. mendoza nava's work has a kind of kitschy charm (along with the work of the aforementioned gentlemen). but as a composer mendoza nava was a nonentity when compared with people like wendy carlos, mike oldfied and vangelis. like many (most?) of the film composers of his generation, jaime mendoza nava helped set the cause of film scoring back half a century. (john williams is another prime offender in this regard, but he did his work using large budgets and operated very much in the public eye. which makes makes his efforts even WORSE than anything mendoza nava et al. happened to do.)75.68.9.233 (talk) 19:58, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
