Talk:IndyCar Racing
New Article
[edit]Shouldn't this be two different articles (IndyCar Racing and IndyCar Racing II)? Just wondering. --Clyde Miller 00:30, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- I support this: I think they are sufficiently different, and the "Racing simulations by Papyrus Design Group" template at the bottom has separate links for both at the moment. I think enough could be written about ICR1 and ICR2 to justify two separate articles. --Hassocks5489 12:07, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
- Well I'll see what I can do about splitting them, but most of the the info will go to IndyCar Racing II. I know this because I added most of the information to this article, and most of it is for the second one.--Clyde Miller 13:14, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
ICR 1 update
[edit]Pleased to find these excellent games have been voted as GCOTW project for this week (I didn't even know such collaboration schemes existed until I stumbled across the page yesterday!). I can add quite a bit of info to ICR 1, which I still play regularly, believe it or not (on a Windows XP machine...) - mainly the fundamental details about driver names, car numbers and so on. What I would need, being an Englishman who is not actually into the ICR/CART scene and did not follow any motor racing in 1992, is some confirmation from more knowledgeable Wikipedians about which of the driver names in the 32-driver set were made up. I think the majority were real drivers - probably at least 20 of the names - but I believe some "extra" names were invented because some tracks in the game needed 32 "opponents".
As well as this, I am not great on the car setup side of things, ot technical details. Also, I can't add a lot about ICR 2, as I no longer have a copy of it, sadly. So over the weekend I'll try to add as much detail as I can, but please do alter any errors and add parts as necessary, because there will be lots of errors and omissions, I imagine.
I'll try to get some screenshots, but I'm not sure if that will be possible. Anyway, with the weekend coming up and then 2 weeks off work, I'm hoping I can expand ICR1 quite a lot.

- That's cool. Since it is the GCotW, there will be a lot of editing to it and cleaning up. Also, I just split this into two diffeent articles. Just a heads up.--Clyde Miller 13:31, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
Having just done the "Car Setup" section, I think I've contributed all I can from my own knowledge. Can anybody help with the remaining stubbed sections, "Development" and "Reception/Popularity"? And are there any other sections that would be useful? (I haven't managed to get any screenshots, unfortunately.) --Hassocks5489 22:31, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
- I lied - I've worked out how to get screenshots ... time to add some! --Hassocks5489 22:40, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
engines
[edit]i think this article should mention the fact that if you choose the Buick engine, it will always overheat and blow anytime you quit the pits area. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.32.105.15 (talk) 19:06, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
More information
[edit]I dont know how to put this into the article but here goes the link http://www.ibiblio.org/GameBytes/issue19/adverts/papyrus.html It has the hardware requirements, awards won and a list of the expansion pack tracks. Hope it helps to improve the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.21.222.144 (talk) 14:19, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
Cruft
[edit]The article was an ugly mess of cruft, so I trimmed a lot of it. This was my first and favorite racing game, and my first 3D game, and I greatly enjoyed the nostalgia from reading the article (which sadly lacked a reference to Justin Thyme from the manual...) but it really didn't meet encyclopedic standards.
