Wouldn't call it trivia...
[edit]"Walker was the Bolton goalkeeper for their first ever European match away from England against Bulgarian team Lokomotiv Plovdiv."
...I wouldn't exactly call that trivia. You could say that about the rest of the team when that match was played..
Currently
[edit]What on earth is he up to now?
Cited source may have been misunderstood
[edit]The article contains this statement with added context shown [like this]:
- His [Ian Walker's] first season at the club [Leicester City] ended in relegation to the First Division,[then England's second tier] eliminating any hopes of being called up for the 2002 World Cup.[cited source]
I suspected this statement did not accurate reflect its source because playing in a lower division can never categorically eliminate the possibility of playing for one's country. It would probably make it harder, but not actually impossible. Then I noticed that the last clause of the very next sentence directly contradicted the last clause of this one. He was indeed selected to play for his country based on his performance in the lower division, albeit just after the World Cup. The cited source actually states this:
- Ian Walker believes that Leicester City's nightmare season may have wrecked his World Cup finals dreams.
In my opinion, the compounded conditional meaning of the verbs believe and may have in the cited report is far from synonymous with the absolute unconditional phrase eliminate any hopes that appears in the article. I think the contributor acted in good faith here, but perhaps only looked at the headline in the reference, which in this case uncharacteristically distorted the text in the body of the reference. The text in question appears to be an indirect quote from the player himself, which suggests replacement text for this article along the lines of:
- His first season at the club ended in relegation to the First Division, which he felt may have wrecked his dreams of being selected for the England 2002 World Cup squad.
I am not confident about making this change. I further suspect that few (if any) editors will be "watching" this page, so I am requesting a vote of confidence before proceeding with any change. I think the way to do this is with a help-me positioned on my own Talk page, but I am not even sure of that! ChrisJBenson (talk) 12:41, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
- Be bold, ChrisJBenson, and make the edit! The worst that can happen is that another contributor might disagree and revert your edit. At that point a good discussion here on the talk page will smooth the improvement if necessary. – Paine Ellsworth CLIMAX! 13:26, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
