A fact from I (newspaper) appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 29 October 2010 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:

Reads like an advertisement
[edit]I linked to this article from front page, and it felt to me like an advertisement. I know this is a recent article, but I think it needs more than parts of a press release. Added Cleanup box. Felgerkarb (talk) 13:48, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
- I'm more than a little concerned that this newspaper is essentially getting a free ad from Wikipedia on their third day of publishing. I'm surprised that this made it through DYK so quickly and in such a poor state, the entire section on the format is essentially quotes form the paper's PR staff. Beeblebrox (talk) 17:38, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
- I have removed almost everything in an attempt to make the article more encyclopedic and less spammy, and I concede and apologize for the way that the article was written. wackywace 18:17, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
- And now that the problems have been fixed the article would no longer qualify as a DYK as it is too short. This is less a flaw in you than in the DYK process, which seems to have been very lax in this case. Beeblebrox (talk) 18:33, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

cost?
[edit]Like most Yanks, I don't really get all the nicknames Brits have for their currency. I had assumed "20p" meant something like 20¢ or twenty pennies, but the link on "p" goes to Pound sterling. Surely this paper doesn't cost twenty pounds? Beeblebrox (talk) 21:14, 16 November 2010 (UTC)
- 20p is one fifth of a pound sterling, maybe 35¢ or so. Cheers, LindsayHi 05:13, 17 November 2010 (UTC)
- I've changed the link. The original link was misleading to non-Brits, as Beeblebrox shows. --Ef80 (talk) 14:42, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
Relationship with The Independent
[edit]What is this paper's relationship with The Independent? Do they share staff? Content? LukeSurl t c 23:45, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, they do - same writers, much the same copy. I would imagine there is a small dedicated production team for I. Barnabypage (talk) 14:27, 29 October 2011 (UTC)
Calling it "i" without "the"
[edit]Per WP:primary source, I don't think we should follow the paper's dictate and call it just "i". I find it hard to believe that anyone would say "I was looking through i today". I may have only ever heard it referred to on Sky News (I live abroad) but there it is always called "the i". "The" is not an official part of the name, so not italicised, not "The i"---that part of the recent change I welcome. But the definite article should be there to preserve normal usage: the i. Rothorpe (talk) 23:25, 10 February 2016 (UTC)
Calling it "the i" does seem indeed to be happening (e.g. BBC Radio 4 Today programme, most mornings during their daily 'roundup' of the morning's papers). With spoken word, this is a particularly problem: "the Eye" is a name commonly applied to well know British satirical magazine 'Private Eye', which has been in print for decades. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 27.253.63.49 (talk) 10:29, 27 June 2016 (UTC)
Sale of i
[edit]Haven't got time to write this into the article, but here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-35561145 "ESI has also confirmed it will sell the i newspaper to Johnston Press, subject to approval from Johnston's shareholders." "It said a "significant number" of staff would move to Johnston Press as part of the sale of the i newspaper." Seagull123 Φ 14:22, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
Radical centre?
[edit]I see no citations or support for the paper being particularly radical politically. I'd advocate just changing this to centre and leave out the radical. Helper201 (talk) 18:38, 4 June 2017 (UTC)
National Newspaper of the Year?
[edit]Someone has written "The i was named National Newspaper of the Year in 2015". The reference hyperlink is broken. http://en.wiki.x.io/wiki/The_Press_Awards#National_Newspaper_of_the_Year says that the National Newspaper of the Year in 2015 was the Mail on Sunday. Could someone please check the situation and correct as necessary? Timothy Cooper (talk) 09:25, 26 November 2018 (UTC)
- The article currently says the publication was "named National Newspaper of the Year at the 2015 News Awards", citing this article in The Independent, which says something similar and doesn't say much more about it than that. In particular, it doesn't say what organization presents the "News Awards". News Awards is a redirect to a very brief description of some kind of internal award program within News Corp. Is that the award being described? Is it a notable award? — BarrelProof (talk) 22:25, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
Incorrect classicfication
[edit]Refers to paper being centrist and Liberal Democrates being a centrist party. Should read 'left' 'left-wing'
Also states not affiliated to any political group yet former Nick Clegg writes articles in the paper. How can the paper be regarded as independent.
[above added by 146.199.201.80 on 5 may 2019]
- The Liberal Democrats are a centre to centre left party. And independent? Yes, but that doesn't mean that politicians or former politicians, of any particular political persuasion cannot write for them. cheers Geopersona (talk) 12:15, 2 November 2019 (UTC)

What the hell does "i" stand for?
[edit]I came here specifically to find an explanation of the name (if any). It seems like an obvious piece of information that readers would want. Surely somebody somewhere must have said something. Thanks --Dawud — Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.37.139.41 (talk) 21:50, 31 March 2022 (UTC)
- I don't know this but as it was launched as a sister newspaper to The Independent and designed to be more condensed, my guess would be that it’s simply a shortening of Independent to i. It would be interesting if we could add to the page regarding the origins of its name if a good source can be found detailing the matter. Helper201 (talk) 22:00, 31 March 2022 (UTC)
