Prior to memoir rediscovery?

If his memoir was 'long thought to be lost', what is Hyecho known from? http://hyecho-buddhist-pilgrim.asian.lsa.umich.edu/index.php implies that the details of his trip are known only from the partial memoir fragment itself. Is he attested to in Indian or Chinese histories or was he known for other things and the pilgrimage a biographical detail mentioned briefly?
