Conjecture - the limits of the power to legislate
[edit]The article contains the following statement:
"Mahon is, and is likely to remain, the only MP ever to be expelled from the Federal Parliament, since, under Section 8 of the Parliamentary Privileges Act 1987,"
This is conjecture. As it was an Act of Parliament to limit its own ability to act, the parliament could repeal that law and then have the power again to expel members!
Parliament is not bound to keep legislation forever that it has enacted.
