The last line of the section on Hannam's career says that he was later promoted to Commander (rather than Chief Superintendent or Deputy Commander which, between 1949 were the Metropolitan Police ranks between Superintendent and Commander), but no source is quoted and I cannot find any rationale for this leap over the intermediate ranks. I did find a record in the London Gazette of a Herbert Henry Hannam being made a Commander (of the British Empire, not the Metropolitan Police), but he was Canadian.
Another source says that, after the Morrell trial, the Metropolitan Police conducted an internal investigation on how Hannam had acted during the police investigation. This inquiry also studied relations between Superintendent Hannam and the press in depth. Its results were never made public, but a year after the investigation Hannam's career in the police ended, and he was later employed in a private security agency. This source does not quote a primary source but, if correct, it seems unlikely that the investigation into the then Superintendent Hannam led to him being promoted Commander and leaving the police, both within the following year.Sscoulsdon (talk) 15:35, 31 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
