This article does not concur with the British History Online article

[edit]

Dormskirk, Cordless Larry and Cinderella157, in doing some research of my own, regarding when the Guards' Club was formed, I was delighted to find this article, as it tied in beautifully with what I wanted to hear. Indeed, I thought I had been given incorrect information when I rang the Cavalry and Guards Club (as it is today) some time ago, and was about to ring them again and tell them they are wrong! However, it seems to me that this article is very misleading, when looking at what British History Online has to say: [1]. This club was not located at 70 Pall Mall when it first formed in 1813 (not 1810). "The Guards' Club was established in 1813 and had for some years occupied a house adjoining Crockford's in St. James's Street". I am not concerned on this score myself, since I shall abide by British History online. I do not intend to make any amendments myself (the stress which ensues every time is simply not worth it), but if anyone thinks it is worth amending ... you are all well-equipped to do so! Edited to add - I've just seen that this article was created from a novel! Oh, dear, this Cavalry and Guards Club is wrong too, and perpetuates the myth! Both articles are very poorly referenced, so could really do with a thorough check against sources and perhaps rewrites. I don't have time to do that now though, I'm afraid. I've tagged the reference issues. Cordless Larry (talk) 09:51, 8 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for doing this Cinderella157. Quite a selection of slightly differing source material, as it turns out, particularly regarding the original date. For my own clarity, I have just spoken to the Secretary of the present-day Cavalry and Guards Club [2] again, and he confirms that the club was formed in 1810 at 88 St. James’s Street, per the Stephen Hoare, (2019) account. He also reconfirmed that the original documentation regarding membership is lost, and their records only go back to 1920. Anne (talk) 11:55, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dormskirk, Cordless Larry and Cinderella157 I apologise to you all. In trying to remove the apostrophe, after Guards', I have succeeded in deleting the article. I am sorry, but could someone please rectify? This happened after I had already expanded the article. Anne (talk) 12:33, 10 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Now sorted, I think. Dormskirk (talk) 12:41, 10 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
