Not verified?

[edit]

Not sure why the article (brief as it is) has a "verify" tag as all the information can be checked easily on the BBC's web pages. Demogorgon's Soup-taster 13:22, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What about the sex scandal in the papers? Is this worth of a mention?88.109.227.95 (talk) 21:09, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

fruit/veg expert, ie greengrocer

[edit]

This doesn't seem to sit very well, either as an introduction or as an encyclopedic phrase, amended to say "fruit and vegetable expert, writer, media presenter and former greengrocer", but any better phrasing welcomed Dylanfromthenorth (talk) 04:06, 11 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

West Veg Ltd

[edit]

I removed the claim that Gregg is a co-director of West Veg Ltd as it was unsourced. I looked on Google for confirmation, but could not find any connection. Poltair (talk) 10:37, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • I note that the claim now appears to be sourced [1]. The reference doesn't actually specify the company name West Veg Ltd, just that Gregg and Howard Graham are involved in a vegetable supply business. The subsequent reference/weblink refers to Greggs veg - so some ambiguity here. I have left the claim for now, having reworked the addition to reduce the promotional tone. Did MasterChef's Gregg Wallace play first-team rugby for London Welsh RFC? Best Regards. DynamoDegsy (talk) 21:41, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Article tone

[edit]

The general tone of this BLP is rather negative and hostile. While I'm no fan of GW and find his Cockney barrer-boy gor-blimey-guvnor schtick tedious, we do need to be careful about such things in BLPs, particularly now as GW is facing allegations of unprofessional behaviour and sexual misconduct. Ef80 (talk) 20:29, 28 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Now much better, thanks. --Ef80 (talk) 16:55, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Being born in Peckham doesn't make you a Cockney. Bow bells cannot be heard in Queen's Road - or any other road in Peckham.
Wallace has a typical South London accent. Being a Cockney is more of an attitude of mind than a voice.
My daughter has a rather posh Received Pronunciation voice but, having been born in Guy's Hospital (within the sound of Bow bells), she qualifies as being a proper Cockney.2A01:4B00:AE0E:6200:3CD1:E0AC:C61:7505 (talk) 21:49, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Don't all the best Cockaneys live darn Basildon and Brentwood: [2]? Or maybe they just "screw their poor old Eileens, get sloshed and go beserk"? It is just schtick, isn't it? Martinevans123 (talk) 21:59, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request

[edit]

Please remove child's name (and commas x2) from the Personal life heading, per WP:BLPNAME:
"Wallace's son ,Sid, was diagnosed with autism in 2022."

I was about to do it meshelf but then found PP had been added. Thanks.-- 82.13.47.210 (talk) 19:53, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

 Done. -- zzuuzz (talk) 20:14, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Status at Banjay

[edit]

Was/is Wallace employed by Banjay? S C Cheese (talk) 12:20, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"Step away" suggests that they expect him to eventually "step back"? Martinevans123 (talk) 12:29, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
He's almost certainly working for his own company who they'll be paying as a contractor. Very few TV 'talents' are the direct employees of either the broadcaster or the production company. There'll be stuff in the contract about grounds for termination but that's unlikely ever to be made public. --Ef80 (talk) 15:30, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It seems he's been associated with eight registered UK companies, two of which are still active. Martinevans123 (talk) 16:29, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"utter hell"

[edit]

(Moved from User talk:Martinevans123).

Looking at your last two edits on the Gregg Wallace article, these both paint Wallace in a poor light and are not reliably sourced. The Express is listed at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources as "generally unreliable" and while OK! is not listed there, I suggest that as a celeb news magazine it's not a proper source for any Wikipedia article. Additionally, as Wallace is a living individual we need to take account of Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons which states that "Contentious material about living persons ... that is unsourced or poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable—must be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion". If you can find the report about Wallace's ex-wife's views in a reliable source then my understanding of the policy is that it can be added if reliably sourced. Greenshed (talk) 22:59, 9 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The "last two edits" were adding the same two-word quote from his late ex-wife. My uncertainly was reflected in the question mark in my edit summary - if something is sourced to the Daily Mail is it still valid if republished by a WP:RS? So, is OK! magazine WP:RS or not? I've seen it used in many BLP articles. With your permission, I'd suggest this thread should be moved to Talk:Gregg Wallace. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 08:14, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have now commented out the addition, pending further discussion here. Martinevans123 (talk) 19:38, 10 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think we need to be very cautious about adding vague and anecdotal examples of bad behaviour. We don't need lots of people saying that he's not a very nice man or that he's lecherous and boorish. --Ef80 (talk) 16:16, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I quite agree, we should be cautious. But we ought to be even more cautious about detailed descriptions of alleged historical abuse. Yes, the accusation is vague, but she was his wife for five years, so I was assuming she would have been in a position to make a fair judgement. The doubts here centre more on the reliability of the published source than on the accuracy of the victim? Martinevans123 (talk) 16:27, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know, it's a very vague claim and it's hardly surprising that divorcees have negative memories of their lives together. I would be reluctant to add it even with better sources. Of course, if she produces more specific allegations then that would be different. --Ef80 (talk) 17:02, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think that's unlikely, as she's dead: "... his second wife Denise Lovall, whom he married in 1999. Lovall, who died in 2017 after a battle with alcoholism, divorced Wallace in 2004 having discovered he allegedly had an affair with one of his employees." [3] Martinevans123 (talk) 17:09, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have to agree with Ef80. There's nothing unusual about an ex-spouse denigrating their old marriage partner, and "utter hell" is too vague to add any value or insight to the article. Schazjmd (talk) 17:26, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm guessing you wouldn't think the reason for his divorce from Lovall was notable either. Just or the record: "In her interview, Denise described the broadcaster as a womaniser obsessed with sex and said he "was always in charge of the money", etc. But as the interview was with one of Wikipedia's specially singled-out sources, the Daily Mail, I'm pretty sure it will never see the light of day in this article. Martinevans123 (talk) 17:36, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't intend to die in a ditch over this, but I do think that someone's ex-wife claiming that they were a bit of an arsehole isn't helpful in a BLP, even if that opinion now appears to be accurate. --Ef80 (talk) 00:42, 13 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Sexual harassment in the United Kingdom

[edit]

Is this category applicable for this article's subject? 87.114.4.224 (talk) 20:16, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Per WP:CATDEF, to help decide that, we need to decide whether 'sexual harassment' is a defining characteristic of the article's topic. That is, do reliable sources commonly and consistently refer to 'sexual harassment' in describing Wallace, in the same way that they refer to him being a presenter on MasterChef or a writer or being from London? -- DeFacto (talk). 20:47, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Reliable sources seem to have changed their tack lately, for some reason. Martinevans123 (talk) 20:52, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Obviously, so if we weigh them per WP:AGE MATTERS. -- DeFacto (talk). 20:59, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Might be the end of his career? Looks quite likely at the moment. Martinevans123 (talk) 22:27, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
