Grandis is an important topic for the following reasons:
- Grandis was the first company to create STT-RAM memories, ushering in a new subfield in the $100B+ memory industry with new, much improved products, leading to many new jobs and affecting many lives.
- Scientifically, Grandis invented the first STT-RAM structures based on magnetic tunnel junction, creating a new active field of scientific research. In fact, there're at least 2 other Wikipedia sites devoted to discussing Grandis's inventions: Spin-transfer torque and MRAM. If they're worth mentioning, Grandis is certainly worth mentioning.
- Grandis was backed by several top-tier venture capital firms such as Matrix Partners, Sevin Rosen, and Applied Materials Ventures, as well as the Department of Defense and Department of Energy. This easily places Grandis among the top 1% of the most successful and significant companies out there.
- As one indication of its importance, Grandis has been mentioned repeatedly in many top-tier news outlets, including the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Bloomberg, Fox, Computer World, MIT Technology Review, Venture News, Techcrunch, EETimes, ZDNet, etc. Why would these respectable news channels devote their precious space and time to something of low importance?
- Not only is Grandis the pioneer/creator of the STT-RAM industry, it also enjoyed the most successful acquisition (by mega-corporation Samsung) of a memory company in a decade.
- Grandis's non-volatile memory technologies at one point was classified by the US Department of Defense to be indispensible for national defense in the event of a nuclear attack.
- If Crocus Technology, of lower importance, success, and impact, already has a Wikipedia page of its own, Grandis definitely deserves one of its own. The reader deserves to know who created the underpinning science and technology for the new STT-RAM field.
Thus, in summary, Grandis should have a Wikipedia page because of its scientific, technological, industrial, historical, military, and financial importance.
