Dark Wave?!

"Part of GothBoiClique's success, he says, is that the aesthetic is open to interpretation by a generation of listeners drawing organic threads between trap, emo, black metal, dark wave, indie rock and whatever else tickles their fancy", it's stated by Wicca Phase Springs Eternal that the intention of the group was to draw on those genres. Whether his intention was realised is a different question, but that's what he intended and that's how it's stated in this article, the article doesn't say anything about them actually being dark wave.
