The Global Disinformation Index (GDI) is a not-for-profit organisation which provides disinformation risk ratings of news sources and websites. GDI estimates online disinformation content attracts $75m per annum in Europe and $235m per annum worldwide in ad tech revenue.[1][2][3] It aims to defund disinformation by removing the financial incentives for news content that promotes adversarial narratives.
Funding
[edit]GDI is funded by a combination of charitable trusts, governmental organizations, and ad tech licensees of its dynamic exclusion list. Major contributors include the Knight Foundation, [4][6], Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO),[7] and Luminate Group.[8]
Political neutrality
[edit]GDI has a policy of political neutrality and transparency.[9] The organization has faced controversy over allegations of political bias.[10][11][12][13]
